Arabella didn’t overthink his comment and simply said, “I was actually planning to check on him around noon. He’s by himself at home, so getting lunch might be difficult. I thought I’d bring him something.”
“Alright. I’ll come with you,” Alfred agreed immediately.
Seeing that Alfred genuinely didn’t seem tired or out of sorts, Arabella nodded. “Okay then.”
“I won’t disturb your work,” Alfred said, then picked up a magazine from the side table and started flipping through it.
Arabella didn’t say anything more and returned to reviewing the files on her desk.
Soon, it was midday.
“Alfred, let’s go,” Arabella said.
“Sure, let’s head out,” Alfred replied, getting up and following her out of the office.
“I already ordered lunch. We’ll pick it up and share it with Lucas,” Arabella explained.
Alfred nodded. “Whatever works.”
His primary mission, after all, was just to accompany her and ensure Lucas didn’t get any ideas about having her to himself.
Before long, the two arrived at the restaurant where she had placed the order.
“We’re here to pick up an order for takeout–it should be under number five,” Arabella told the host.
“Of course, one moment,” the host said and went to retrieve their food.
“What are you two doing here?” A familiar voice came from behind them. Arabella turned around instinctively.
It was Matthew. “Just picking up lunch,” she answered. “Are you here for a meal?”
“Meeting someone,” Matthew replied briefly, then asked. “Not staying to eat?”
“No, I’m headed to Lucas‘ place,” Arabella said casually.
The server returned with several takeout bags. “Here you are, your order is all set.”
“Thank you,” Arabella said, taking the bags. She gave Matthew a slight nod. “Mr. Stewart, we’ll be on our way.”
Watching her walk away, Matthew’s eyes narrowed slightly.
Buying lunch to eat at Lucas‘ place… When had the two of them gotten so familiar?
“Wasn’t Lucas discharged from the hospital?” Matthew’s tone cooled.
Sensing the shift in his boss‘ mood, Andy braced himself internally and replied, “Yes, sir, he was, He’s presumably recuperating at
home now.”

“So she’s going to his house?” Matthew’s voice grew even colder.
“It… appears that way,” Andy said, suppressing a shiver, then quickly added, “I’ll look into the details.”
With that, Andy hurried off to handle the matter.
Once he stepped outside the restaurant and felt the sunlight, Andy finally started to feel a little warmer.
“Hey, I need you to check something for me…”

A short while later, Andy returned. “Mr. Stewart, it seems Lucas was injured yesterday while saving Dr. Hamilton from an accident…”
Hearing Andy’s report, Matthew frowned. “She was nearly hurt?”
“Yes. It appears Mr. Ethan Hamilton has already identified the responsible party and is planning to address the situation,” Andy explained.
Matthew glanced at Andy. “Some people clearly have no sense of who they’re dealing with.”
Then, Matthew strode into the private dining room.
“People really shouldn’t court trouble. They’re just bringing it on themselves,” Andy muttered under his breath before going off to handle his boss‘ latest instructions.
Arabella and Alfred arrived at Lucas‘ villa, and Lucas came to the door.
“Arabella! What are you doing here?” Lucas sounded genuinely surprised and pleased.
“Bringing you lunch,” Arabella said as she walked inside.
Lucas was about to close the door when it met resistance. Puzzled, he looked toward the doorway.
“Alfred!” He hadn’t expected Alfred to be there too.
“You don’t seem thrilled to see me?” Alfred asked, his tone mild.
“Not at all.” Lucas quickly shook his head. “Just surprised, that’s all.”
He then gestured for them to enter. “Please, come in.”
It was a bit disappointing that Arabella wasn’t alone, but he couldn’t let it show–especially since this was her brother.
Alfred entered the house, and Arabella had already begun unpacking and setting out the lunch containers on the kitchen counter
“Come and eat,” Arabella called to both of them.
“This looks fantastic!” Lucas said gratefully. “Arabella, you’re too kind I was just wondering how I was going to manage lunch.”
“If I hadn’t come, you weren’t seriously planning to just skip a meal, were you?” Arabella shot Lucas a mildly chiding look
Lucas nodded with an exaggerated sigh. “I really would have. You’re a lifesaver!”
