Before long, the weekend rolled around.
Cloudrise Manor was buzzing with activity from early morning.
Frank had already picked up Ryan and Lena on his way.
The private jet was parked on the runway, engines quiet but ready for boarding.
"Arabella, I still can't believe you got your pilot's license that fast—and now you're actually taking us up," Florence said, her face beaming with pride.
"Well, Mom, when I say I'll do something, I follow through," Arabella replied casually. "Since everyone's here, why don't we board and get settled?"
"Sounds good."
One by one, they made their way onto the plane.
With a little assistance, Ryan and Lena boarded first, followed by Jonathan and Florence. Frank and Alfred stepped on after them.
Ethan glanced over at Naomi, who had been standing quietly off to the side without saying a word. "Naomi, you coming?"
"Yeah," she muttered through clenched teeth, finally climbing aboard.
When her mother first told her the whole family was spending the weekend at Misty Resort, she'd been completely thrown.
Arabella had earned her license in no time, while Naomi hadn't touched the controls in months—she was totally out of practice.
Not only had Arabella gotten certified, but now she was flying everyone on a weekend getaway. And to Misty Resort, of all places.
It made her so jealous she could barely stand it, but she didn't dare let it show. She just had to swallow her pride and go along.
"Arabella, everyone's buckled in. Ready when you are," Ethan said, turning toward the cockpit.
Arabella nodded. "Let's do this."
Once everyone was seated, Arabella guided the plane smoothly down the runway and lifted gently into the sky.
"You handle this thing like you've been flying for years, Arabella. That takeoff was seamless," Alfred remarked admiringly.
Frank nodded in agreement. "Really impressive."
"Never thought I'd be flying in a plane piloted by my own granddaughter," Lena added with a warm chuckle.
"Naomi, you're close to getting your license too, aren't you?" Ryan asked, turning toward her with an encouraging smile.
He remembered back when all three girls—Naomi, Ruby, and Arabella—had started flight lessons around the same time.
Naomi's smile tightened. "I've been pretty swamped lately, so I haven't had much time to train. Still working on it."
"No rush, it'll happen," Ryan said kindly.
But his words did little to comfort her. If anything, they made her cheeks burn with embarrassment.
She'd been so determined to outdo Arabella, and now it felt like she was falling behind in every way.
Deep down, she knew this wasn't really a vacation for her—it was just another setting to feel miserable in.
The flight passed with easy conversation and light laughter until Misty Resort came into view.
