How was she supposed to know if she'd lose her mind again?
"Then what's the point of treating her?" Freya shot back. "If she gets better only to relapse—and ends up scarred on top of it?"
"Arabella, are you sure you're not doing this on purpose?" Calvin said through gritted teeth.
"What else would it be?" Arabella replied calmly. "If you had any other options, you wouldn't have come to me."
"Mom, don't pressure Arabella. Let her treat Harper," Edward said, turning back to Arabella. "But Arabella... shouldn't surgery be done in an operating room?"
Doing it right here—was that really okay?
"It's a minor procedure. Here is fine," Arabella said, raising the scalpel once more.
The blade gleamed under the light, and Harper flinched.
"No, we're not doing this." Freya rushed over, blocking Arabella's path.
"Mom, please. Trust Arabella. She saved my life," Edward insisted helplessly.
"It's too late to back out now. The surgery has to happen," Arabella stated coolly.
"Stop right there! I'll have you charged with attempted murder!" Calvin jumped into the confrontation.
"Everyone, please calm down. If you can't, then you all need to leave. Don't interfere with my treatment," Arabella said, adjusting her grip on the scalpel as if deciding where to begin.
"Don't you dare touch her!" Freya stood firmly in Arabella's way.
Edward and Calvin began arguing heatedly, pulling at each other's arms.
Amid the commotion and the cold glint of the blade, a flicker of awareness returned to Harper's eyes.
Slowly, her gaze focused on the face in front of her. She went pale. "Ah—!"
After that scream, Harper scrambled upright, pressed herself into the corner, and yelled, "Arabella, what are you doing? Are you trying to kill me?"
"Yeah, that's exactly what I'm about to do," Arabella replied, setting the scalpel down and allowing a mocking smile to touch her lips.
"See? I knew she was up to no good!" Freya pointed an accusing finger at Arabella, her anger boiling over.
Edward sighed in frustration. "Mom, Arabella came here to help Harper. Why would she want to hurt her?"
"Are you not hearing this? She just admitted it herself!" Freya could hardly believe Edward was being so naive.
"That was just Arabella talking out of anger. There's no way she'd actually hurt anyone," Edward said firmly, his faith in Arabella unshaken.
Calvin's expression turned icy. "I'm calling the police."
"Go ahead, call them," Arabella shot back, locking eyes with him. "But if you do, you lose."
"I..." Calvin choked on his words, his face flushing with anger and humiliation.
