Ruby, who had been about to greet Ethan, swallowed her words when she heard he’d returned specifically to see Arabella–and brought a gift. She simply went back to eating in silence.
Noticing Ethan’s gaze lingering on Arabella, Naomi said with a light smile, “Ethan, have you eaten yet? Sit down and join us.”
Hearing her voice, Ethan finally looked away from Arabella. He gave Naomi a brief glance before taking a seat next to Frank.
“Frank, when did you get in?” Ethan greeted his brother.
“Came straight here from the airport.”
“You mentioned you brought something for Arabella–let’s see it,” Frank said, getting straight to the point.
Prompted by Frank, Florence and even Ruby glanced over with interest.
Ethan grinned but didn’t reveal anything just yet. “Let’s eat first. These crabs won’t stay warm forever.”
Seeing him play coy, Frank immediately blocked Ethan’s fork with his own. “No crab until you hand it over. This batch was for Arabella, not for you.”
Ethan shot Frank a look of mock exasperation, then pulled a car key from his pocket and slid it across the table toward Arabella. “Here you go, Arabella.”
Arabella was in the middle of eating a crab leg when the key landed beside her plate. She glanced at it, then up at Ethan.
“May I eat now?” Ethan gestured for Frank to lower his fork.
Frank looked at the key–it appeared to be for a limited–edition sports model–and finally withdrew his utensil. “That’s more like it.”
Ruby stared intently at the key beside Arabella’s hand. Before she could even make out the emblem, she blurted, “Ethan, you’re rich enough–and all you give is a car key?”
Hearing Ruby’s remark, Ethan simply glanced her way. Why is she even here?
“Ruby, has your eyesight gotten worse lately? Might be time for new glasses,” Ethan said dismissively before turning his attention back to cracking open a crab.

Realizing she’d been subtly mocked, Ruby shot him an annoyed look and turned to Naomi. “Pass me the key. I want to see it.”
Arabella looked at Ruby but didn’t move.
Naomi interjected quickly, “That’s a gift for Arabella. Why do you need to inspect it? Just enjoy your crab.”
Ruby was overstepping again–better to cut her off before someone else called her out.
Ruby caught Naomi’s tone and realized she’d spoken out of turn once more.
Florence, sitting beside Arabella, spoke up warmly, “Ethan’s gift is perfect timing. I was planning to take Arabella car shopping soon–it really isn’t convenient getting around without one. This will make things much easier.”
“Guess I showed up at just the right moment,” Ethan said with a satisfied smile.
“Arabella, try this one out. If you don’t like how it drives later, just tell me. Getting you another one is no trouble at all,” Ethan added casually.
“Thank you, Ethan. I really did need a car–this is perfect,” Arabella replied.
“Don’t mention it. No need to be formal with me,” Ethan said warmly.
Then he turned to Frank. “So, what did you give Arabella?”
“You probably saw it on your way in,” Frank answered calmly.
Ethan frowned slightly, trying to recall if he’d noticed anything new when he arrived.
“Didn’t see anything out of the ordinary,” he murmured.
“Ethan, didn’t you notice the plane on the helipad?” Naomi reminded him.
“I saw it. It’s Frank’s,” Ethan said, knowing Frank owned several planes and often traveled privately.
“Not anymore–it’s his gift to Arabella,” Naomi clarified evenly.
“For Arabella?” Ethan looked at Frank, genuinely surprised this time.
With a teasing tone, he added, “Pretty extravagant. How’s Arabella supposed to fly it? She doesn’t have a pilot’s license.”
