Chapter 84 A Demand for Respect
Ethan’s gaze settled coldly on Freya, who had just insulted Arabella.
“You–apologize to my sister,” he said, his voice low and firm.
His words stunned everyone in the room.
No one had ever dared demand an apology from Freya before. They all stared at Ethan, too taken aback to speak.
Freya let out a sharp, dismissive laugh. “How bold. Do you even know where you are? Asking me to apologize–have you lost your mind?
“But I am curious–dressed like that, are you renting that suit? Must cost a pretty penny for the day. Can your family even afford it?” she mocked openly.
Though she could tell Ethan’s clothes were bespoke, the moment she heard he was Arabella’s brother, it all seemed like a farce.
Carter had told her Arabella’s family were unemployed drifters.
Now this man claiming to be her brother showed up in a tailored suit–clearly putting on a show, probably here with Arabella to squeeze money out of them.
Now she was even more convinced Arabella had come for cash.
Ethan’s brow furrowed. Was this woman blind or just foolish?
“Which eye of yours saw that my clothes are rented?” It was the first time anyone had ever said such a thing to him.
How ignorant. How absurd.
Freya seemed to think she’d found a way to humiliate Arabella further. The anger on her face shifted into a sneer.
“I don’t need to look. Your whole family are unemployed drifters. If they’re not rented, did you fish them out of a donation bin?”
“Mom! That’s enough–you’re being insulting!” Edward couldn’t stay quiet any longer.
He then turned to Ethan. “I’m sorry–I apologize on my mother’s behalf. Maybe she… had too much to drink earlier. Please don’t take it to heart.
“Arabella, you should both go,” Edward urged, worried Freya would escalate things further.

Though Arabella was furious, seeing how Edward had repeatedly stood up for her, she didn’t want him getting too worked up.
So she swallowed her anger, walked over to Ethan, and said quietly, “Ethan, let’s go.”
Ethan glanced at her. He wasn’t keen on leaving—not before this woman apologized to Arabella.
But just then, Freya stirred the pot again. “Oh, no–you’re not going anywhere. This is my house. You don’t just come and go as you please
“That’s right. You’ve upset my mother. You should apologize before you leave,” Harper chimed in, emboldened by Freya’s attitude.
Arabella shot Harper a cold look. She really doesn’t know when to stop. Doesn’t she realize Ethan could turn this place upside down?
“Arabella, did you hear that? They want an apology. Maybe we shouldn’t leave just yet,” Ethan said, settling back into his seat. Truthfully, he hadn’t wanted to leave anyway.
Seeing Freya and Harper were asking for trouble, Arabella sat back down as well and picked up another piece of mango.
Watching Arabella eat, Harper frowned and turned to Edward. “Edward! Why did you give my mango to her?”
“There’s more in the kitchen. You won’t starve. What’s wrong with me giving one to Arabella?” Edward replied, annoyed.
Really–coul.
“noyed.
he decide what to do with a mango?
Wasn’t Harper an adult? Why was she so petty?
Unable to win
against Edward, Harper looked to Freya. “Mom, that was my favorite mango. I haven’t even had any, and he just gave it away.”
Freya’s expression darkened, but she patted Harper’s arm. “Just consider it charity. I will buy you another one later.”
Hearing this, a dangerous chill flashed in Ethan’s eyes. “What did you just say? I think you’ve been living too comfortably.”
Freya didn’t grasp his meaning at all and continued mocking him. “I’m saying, aren’t you tired of putting on this act? Real wealthy people don’t behave like you.
“I don’t have time to entertain you two. Get out of my house now, or I won’t be polite,” Freya demanded, issuing what she saw as an eviction.
