Chapter 6
Willow’s POV
I sat on the cold iron fence, lost in the past.
I remembered the night he saved me. He had shifted back into his human form and picked me up with a bright, easy smile.
I had never been able to forget that look.
“If it wasn’t for him that night, I would’ve died.”
“But he didn’t deserve someone as good as you.”
Damian stood beside me, wrapped in an expensive cashmere coat that smelled of crisp cedar.
When he looked at me, there was none of the typical Alpha aggression-only a deep, unreadable calm.
I actually met Damian because of another accident.
Three years ago, a subway tunnel collapsed while I was pulling a solo maintenance shift.
The signal went dead, and I was trapped behind a massive iron security gate.
Just as the oxygen was running out and I started to hallucinate, Damian appeared.
He tore that gate open with his bare hands, stepping through the ruins like a god.
I had always wanted to pay him back. But all he ever asked was if I’d be willing to join his pack once my contract with Rowan ended.
“The subway had already posted a closure notice that day,” I asked, looking at him. “Why were you even there?”
He stared at the distant city lights. “Willow, that wasn’t the first time we met.”
He reached into his coat and pulled out a silver pocket watch. The edges were worn and the casing was slightly dented.
I leaned in and realized it was the same watch I’d fished out from the track gaps years ago while

on duty. I had spent nights cleaning it before returning it to the mysterious, cloaked owner.
“It was the last thing my mother left me-a proof of the Lycan bloodline,” he said, his thumb brushing the cover. “You brought it back to me.”
It turned out he had been repaying that debt for years in the shadows.
“I’ve had people watching over you ever since. That night in the alley… my wolves were actually seconds away from stepping in. Rowan just got there first.”
He turned his head, his warm gaze settling on my face.
I hopped off the fence and faced him. “Then it’s my turn to return the favor, Damian.”
My meaning was clear: since I had severed my ties with Rowan, I was ready for his mark.
“Do you know what it means for a human to say that to an Alpha?”
Damian’s fingers grazed a stray lock of hair on my forehead.
Seeing me freeze, a rare, faint smile touched his hard features.
He patted my head like I was a small animal. “Not yet, Willow.”
“Then when?”
“When it’s not about a debt. When you actually want to be with me.”
We took the last train back, but Rowan was still there.
He was standing exactly where we had left him. His face relaxed the moment he saw me.
I tried to ignore him and pull Damian away, but Rowan blocked our path like a madman.
“Willow… since you left, I haven’t marked another she-wolf…”
I acted like he was invisible and kept walking. He stumbled along behind us.
Finally, I stopped, my last shred of patience vanishing into the cold wind.
“Rowan, you’re free to mark whoever you want. Stop following me like a rogue.”
“I only want you!” he let out a pained roar.

“Without your scent, I can’t suppress the feral urge! If this keeps up, my wolf is going to snap!”

When he saw I wasn’t budging, his tone turned dark. “If you don’t… I’ll snap every bone in Silas’s body, inch by inch.”
“You!” I grabbed his collar, shaking with fury.
Silas was the only wolf in that pack who had ever shown me respect.
Rowan actually looked relieved to see me angry. “If you come with me, I’ll let him go.”
