Sham Marriage Quit, Real Heiress Strikes Back
Chapter 104 Public Clash
“Understood,” Elena said.
Working with Camille would be awkward, but at least Hannah would be coming too.
After Elena left the office, Lydia’s expression darkened. She picked up her phone and called Ryan.
“Ryan, I’ve spoken to Elena. She’ll be responsible for onboarding the Swiftline staff.”
“Got it. Thank you,” Ryan replied, glancing at the man seated behind his desk.

Lydia hesitated. “Should we run this by Mr. Kingsley? Elena hasn’t been here long. I’m not sure she has enough authority to lead.”
“I’ve already discussed it with Mr. Kingsley,” Ryan said evenly. “Just follow the plan.”
“Understood.”
Lydia ended the call, gripping her phone tightly. Who exactly is Elena?
At first she assumed it was because of the Hawthorne family that Elena got into Velmora Media. But now news had surfaced that Elena was not even Nathan’s wife.
Ryan might have the authority to bring her in, but even he would not casually assign her to manage Swiftline’s transfer.
Unless…
Unless she had a connection to Alexander.
Lydia shook her head at her own thoughts.
Alexander’s standards were high. She had been around him for years, and he had never once looked at her differently. She refused to believe Elena, a former reporter, could outshine her.
Meanwhile, Elena texted Hannah as soon as she sat down.
Elena sent a message, “You’re starting here tomorrow?”
Hannah replied almost instantly, “Yes, Elena. We’ll see each other again.”
Then another message popped up.
Hannah sent a message, “Camille’s been on leave these past few days. She’ll probably come too. I wonder what her face is going to look like.”
What would Camille’s face look like?
Elena was curious too.
That evening, as she left the building, she spotted a black Rolls–Royce parked at the curb.

Her expression stayed flat.
She turned and walked in the opposite direction. Nathan got out and strode after her.
“Why are you avoiding me?” he demanded, blocking her path.
Elena let out a short laugh. The nerve. After everything he had done with Camille, now public knowledge, he still had the audacity to question her?
“What exactly do we have left to talk about?” she asked coldly.
The colder she sounded, the more Nathan thought about Evan’s words.
“Where were you yesterday?” he pressed.
Elena lifted her gaze lazily. “Where I go is none of your business. Worry about your wife. My life has nothing to do with you.”
“Were you with Alexander?” Nathan blurted. “What is going on between you two?”
The thought of Elena having something secret with Alexander made his chest burn.
Maybe their marriage had never been real, but Elena had loved him for five years. If she could turn around and be with Alexander so quickly, then what had those five years meant?
He could not accept that.
Elena’s heart skipped, and she was already calculating her response when another voice cut in.
“She was with me. Is that a problem?”
Sophia stepped forward from behind, having just walked out of the building. She pulled Elena behind her protectively and glared at Nathan.
“You’ve got some nerve,” Sophia continued. “You hurt Elena, and now you’re interrogating her? I was at my brother’s wedding yesterday. I saw her run out in tears, so I took her home with me. If she hadn’t said Charles was in the hospital, I wouldn’t have let her go anywhere near your family, Bad luck.”
Sophia’s words hit like sharp little darts.
Nathan had nothing to say.
So Elena had been with Sophia last night. That explained why Evan saw her arrive in a Kingsley car this morning. Maybe Sophia had driven her.
Nathan’s expression cased slightly.
