Chapter 133 Drawing the Line
..What do you mean?” Nathan asked, his voice tightening.

“I meant exactly what I said,” Elena replied evenly. “I stayed because I wanted you to pay for what you did. Nathan, where did you get the confidence to believe five years of lies would ever feel small to me?”
When she had first learned the truth, disbelief had given way to anger, then confusion, and finally the kind of devastation that strips away everything you once believed in. There was no version of her that could shrug that off and pretend it had never happened.
Seated in her wheelchair, her face pale but composed, Elena looked at him with open mockery. “What I want is simple. I want your family, and Camille, to face the consequences you deserve. Try getting some sleep tonight. If you’re lucky, you might still have your shares and status in your dreams.”
A cold weight settled in his chest.
He understood now. She was not lashing out blindly. This was deliberate.
He reached toward her instinctively, but before his hand could touch her, the two bodyguards stepped in and gripped his shoulders firmly. Pain shot through him, sharp enough to force a cry from his throat. In the next second, they had lifted him and shoved him backward into the elevator.
“What exactly are you to Elena?” he demanded, anger and humiliation mixing in his voice.
The two men stood like immovable walls. Getting close to her was no longer an option.
Nathan’s breathing turned uneven. He thought back to seeing Alexander at the hospital a few days earlier and asked through clenched teeth, “Are you working for Alexander?”
The guard on the right brushed his hands together as if dusting off something invisible. “We don’t work for Alexander. We work for Miss Sterling. Starting today, we’re her security detail.”
He lifted his fist slightly and added with a faint grin, “Guys like you? We don’t need much effort.”
Nathan instinctively stepped back.
Miss Sterling’s security detail?Since when did she have the money for that?
After escorting him out, the guards returned to the room.
“Miss Sterling, he’s gone,” the one on the right said respectfully.

She had hired them after meeting Evan at a security firm. Their names were Noah and Liam, brothers with solid reputations.
“From now on, he doesn’t come anywhere near me,” Elena said calmly.
The article she had published made it clear that whatever thin thread remained between her and Nathan had snapped.
That was fine. She had no interest in pretending otherwise.
“Yes, Miss Sterling,” they replied in unison.
She eased herself back onto the hospital bed. Just as she settled in, her phone rang. It was Hannah.
“What’s going on?” Elena asked.
Hannah sounded urgent. “Elena, earlier today Lydia called Camille back to the office and kept her in there. You sent in that fire report, right? Do you think this has something to do with it?”
Ever since the Alexander interview had been taken and published under Camille’s name, Hannah had been on edge whenever Camille hovered around Elena’s work.
“And you’re still in the hospital because of that assignment,” Hannah added. “If someone tries to take your story again, that’s not okay.”
A thought clicked into place.
No wonder Nathan had been so agitated earlier, pressing her about the fire. Someone must have tipped him off.
“I appreciate it, Hannah,” Elena said softly.
“Are you feeling better? When are you getting discharged? Lydia’s been asking me nonstop if you’ve actually gone to the hospital. She keeps hinting like you’re faking it for compensation.”
Elena let out a quiet breath. “A couple more days and I’ll be out.”
“Good. Come back soon.”
After ending the call, Elena switched accounts and logged into the company’s internal messaging platform, sending Lydia a direct message.
Elena sent a message, “Has the West Garment Factory report been finalized yet?”
The reply came quickly.
