Lydia’s face burned with humiliation, and the resentment she already felt toward Elena deepened into something sharper and harder to hide. She bit down on her lower lip, kept her expression tight, and walked out of the office without another word.
Camille sat at her desk, restless and uneasy, because her instincts told her that Lydia’s sudden dismissal had everything to do with the report from the day before.
She did not have to wait long to find out.
Once Lydia cleared out her things and left, HR came looking for Camille. Because she was pregnant, they did not terminate her employment, but they handed her a formal written warning and made it clear that any further issues would not be overlooked.
Camille exhaled slowly after HR walked away.
But who exactly is backing Elena?Sophia?
Sophia might be a Kingsley, but Pinnacle Group had never been something she had authority over, otherwise she would not be working at Velmora Media as an assistant. That explanation did not add up.
Camille could not piece it together.
Meanwhile, Hannah was enjoying the chaos more than anyone. In fact, she and Sophia were probably the two happiest people in the entire office. She glanced over at Camille, whose face had gone pale and rigid, and while casually scrolling with her mouse, she suddenly noticed something on the official Velmora Media account.
The report about the Hawthorne Group garment factory fire that had been posted earlier that day was gone.
Within thirty seconds, a new report appeared.
This one was far more interesting than the version Camille had submitted before. The earlier article had echoed other media outlets, describing the fire as an accident and even praising Hawthorne Group for responding quickly and preventing casualties.
The newly published piece, however, highlighted that after the fire, individuals believed to be Hawthorne Group employees had entered the scene, apparently searching for something, and that flammable materials had been discovered near the origin point.
It also included photographs.
Hannah watched as several marketing accounts quickly began reposting the article.

Normally, a factory fire from days ago would not draw much attention. Although there had been rumors that Victor had been taken in for questioning, public interest had already begun to fade.
This new article should not have generated much traction.
Then Hannah scrolled down to the byline and saw the name.
Elena Sterling.
When Elena answered Hannah’s call, she had just finished an IV drip.
“Elena, you really went all in on this,” Hannah said. “Aren’t you worried the Hawthorne family will come after you?”
She genuinely feared for Elena’s safety. Anyone who could deceive her for five years was not likely to be guided by conscience.

Hawthorne Group takes a hit to their reputation, that’s hardly the end of the world, is it?”
was in a surprisingly good mood, especially imagining Nathan’s reaction once he saw the icle.
“Well done,” Hannah said without hesitation. “Oh, and Lydia was fired.”
Elena had already seen that Lydia had left the
group chat.
report The night before, when Alexander came by, she had mentioned how Lydia handed her to Camille. She had also said clearly that she intended to dismiss Lydia, because as the current head of Velmora Media, she believed removing someone from her team was within her authority.
She had told Alexander only because she vaguely remembered Lydia once claiming she had a good relationship with him.
When she said, “I’m planning to let Lydia go,”
Alexander had looked up from his laptop and asked, “Who is Lydia?”
Elena had been speechless.
That had been enough to tell her she did not need to consult him on something like this. She submitted the request through the system, and to her surprise, it was approved first thing in the morning.

At the Hawthorne residence, the sound of shattering glass echoed repeatedly through the living
room.
Nathan had already smashed several cups.
“Have you found Marcus yet?” he demanded, gripping a bodyguard by the collar, his eyes bloodshot.
“We checked his recent travel records,” the bodyguard answered cautiously. “It looks like he left the country.”
Nathan’s expression darkened.
