“Victor being taken into custody is only the beginning,” Elena added calmly. “We have plenty of time.
There was no pretense in her tone now.
Camille staggered back a step and hit the doorframe. The color drained from her face completely.
Is this really Elena? The woman who used to keep her head down at the Hart house now stands there like a completely different person.
“Losing in a professional setting isn’t the end of the world,” Elena said, her voice steady as she looked toward the colleagues gathered at the door. “But spreading rumors and attacking someone’s character because you feel threatened only proves you lack both ability and integrity.”
She shifted her gaze back to Camille.
“If you believe you deserve this position, you’re welcome to compete with your performance and your results. But if you continue making defamatory statements, I will submit a formal complaint to HR for reputational harm.”
Camille bit down hard on her lip before forcing out the words, “I quit.”
In her mind, there was no doubt that Elena must be Alexander’s mistress. Otherwise, how could she become executive president of Velmora Media and now Camille’s direct superior?
Working under Elena was not an option.
She would rather leave. Elena had expected this.
The moment Camille said it, she contacted HR to process the resignation.
After returning home, Camille immediately told Catherine about Elena’s new titles.
“Has Alexander lost his mind?” Catherine said, stunned. In her eyes, aside from looks, Elena had never been superior to Camille. Why would Alexander go that far for her?
“Mom, I was humiliated,” Camille said, her eyes red. “When I resigned, she mocked me in front of everyone and said I was jealous and incompetent.”
She lowered her voice. “If I had known it would be this humiliating, I would never have insisted on staying with the Hart family back then.”
“Don’t say that,” Catherine said, pulling her into an embrace. “Elena embarrassed you today, but I will make sure she pays for it. Trust me.”
Camille looked up. “Then what about my job?”
A calculating look flashed through her eyes.
Catherine squeezed her hand. “Don’t worry. I have a plan. You just wait. One day you’ll stand over her and make her regret everything.”

“Thanks, Mom. I knew you cared about me most.”
Camille finally smiled through her tears.
On the weekend, Elena had planned to work overtime at the office, but Evelyn called.
“Are you busy today?” Evelyn asked stiffly.
Elena closed her laptop. “I’m free, Mom. I was actually going to ask if you wanted to go out for a bit.”
Evelyn’s tone softened slightly. Walter had insisted she build a better relationship with Elena, even though she did not plan on being overly involved. As long as Elena fulfilled her role in the Kingsley family and carried on the line, that was enough.
Still, she could not ignore Walter.
She had assumed Elena would turn her down, so she was slightly surprised to find that Elena understood the situation and responded appropriately without making things awkward.
“I suppose I’m available,” Evelyn replied.
“There’s a jewelry exhibition at three this afternoon. The organizer has invited me several times. Come with me.”
“Of course. I’ll pick you up at two.”
Not long after she hung up, Alexander called.
“Dinner tonight?” he asked.
