Chapter 203 Not a Joke
Elena felt like something was stuck in her throat. For a moment, she didn’t know what to say.
The wallet wasn’t heavy, but it suddenly felt like it carried weight.
Alexander looked at her. “What? Didn’t you ask for it?”
She snapped out of it and quickly handed it back. “I was kidding.”
“I’m not.”
He put it right back in her hand, like he was making a point.
“You do deserve a raise. The Monica interview turned out great, it’s a big win for Velmora Media. But you just stepped into the role, so it doesn’t fit the company’s raise cycle yet. I’ll make up the difference myself. If you want something, just use my card.”
He paused, then added, “And don’t brush me off like last time.”
Elena looked at him. Is this what having too much money looks like?
“Seriously, you don’t have to. I was joking. If you really want to reward me, just bump my year–end bonus.”
“In the Kingsley family, the men don’t handle the money. Their wives do. I’m no exception.”
Then he added calmly, “My grandfather will ask about it. Take it. Don’t mess this up.”
So that was the reason.
Elena let out a quiet breath. “Alright. I’ll hold onto it for you.”
I’m not actually going to use it anyway.
Nathan had sent Elena multiple messages, all unanswered.
Still unwilling to give up, he sent another one the next morning. \
“Elena, can we set a time to talk things through?”
No response.
He clenched his jaw, irritation building as he tossed his phone aside.
Then he checked his watch and called his assistant, Ethan. “Is Monica here yet?”
Talent Group was preparing to partner with Hawthorne Group.
Nathan was in charge of the apparel division on this deal. If he secured it, his standing with Victor would solidify.
Ethan hesitated. Mr. Hawthorne, she she’s here, but…

Nathan’s patience snapped.
Ethan forced himself to continue. “I just saw Evan come downstairs and personally bring Monica up.”
