Chapter 249 Lines You Don’t Cross
“I think you’ve got the wrong idea.”

Elena didn’t rush her words. Her tone stayed calm, almost casual, like none of this was worth getting worked
up over.
Landon didn’t snap back. If anything, he looked entertained. “I saw the coverage. You stepping in, stopping a pregnant woman from jumping. That was… admirable.”
Elena held his gaze. “Just ‘a pregnant woman? You’re really going to pretend you don’t know who she is?”
Landon paused for a beat, then lifted a brow as if something had just clicked. He let out a short laugh and tapped his temple lightly. “Right. Nicole, wasn’t it? Now I remember. She tried getting close to me a while back, thought she could trade that for better opportunities. Ended up pregnant along the way. I paid her to take care of it.”
He shrugged, tone easy, like he was talking about a minor inconvenience. “Looks like she didn’t follow through. That’s on her.”
That version of the story was completely different from what Nicole had said.
So which one of them is lying? Or are they both twisting it?
Elena couldn’t tell. But standing this close to him, watching how effortlessly he dismissed everything, a quiet disgust settled in her chest.
“I’m not looking to turn this into a scene,” Landon continued, his voice cooling slightly. “Delete whatever you recorded, and you can walk out of here. No problem.”
Elena didn’t budge. “I didn’t record anything.”
If he really had nothing to hide, he wouldn’t be this pressed.
The last trace of a smile disappeared from Landon’s face. His eyes hardened, and with the smallest shift of his gaze, the two men beside him stepped in closer, subtly boxing her in and blocking the view from the rest of the room.
They were about to reach for her…
“Mr. Hawke, hold on a second!”
Dickson hurried over, clearly rattled, slipping himself between them. “There’s been a misunderstanding. You might not know this, but she’s Mr. Kingsley’s wife, Elena.”
His tone row Landon was careful, almost cautious in a way that didn’t match how he usually carried
himself.
Elena’s brows knit slightly.

I’ve already been more than reasonable. If she doesn’t hand it over right now, I don’t care who she’s married to. Even Alexander being here wouldn’t change how this ends.”
His expression tightened, the polished charm completely gone. “Last time. Give it to me.”
Elena’s fingers tightened around her phone. She still didn’t move.
The tension in the air snapped tight, like something was about to break.
Dickson leaned in, lowering his voice urgently. “Ms. Sterling… just give it to him. He’s not trying to make things worse for you. If there’s anything on your phone, just delete it and let this go.”
That only made things clearer in the worst way.
He knew exactly who she was, knew she was Alexander’s wife, and still chose to side with Landon.
Which meant one thing.
Landon wasn’t someone you casually went up against.
あ
“Alright,” Landon said quietly, his tone flat now. “Then don’t blame me for what happens next.
He gave a slight nod.
The two men moved at the same time, reaching straight for Elena’s phone without bothering to hide it
anymore.
“Landon.”
The voice came from above, sharp and edged with unmistakable anger.
It cut clean through the moment. Everyone nearby looked up. Elena followed their gaze.
On the second–floor balcony stood two figures. One of them was Alexander.
He was supposed to be in Astryn.
A glass of red wine rested loosely in his hand, his expression unreadable, controlled. His eyes flicked to Elena for the briefest second before shifting away, like he’d already assessed everything he needed to.
Standing beside him was the same middle–aged woman Elena had seen in Nicole’s hospital room.
Under the attention of the entire room, they walked downstairs together.
Alexander stopped directly in front of Elena, placing himself between her and Landon without making it
look forced.

“So what you’re saying, Alexander said evenly, “is that my wife doesn’t matter here?”
The shift in the room was immediate.
Landon’s carlier confidence thinned. He glanced sideway
at the woman beside Alexander before.

answering, his voice noticeably lowered. “That’s not what I meant.”
Alexander didn’t react to that. His hand hovered at Elena’s waist, not quite holding her, but close enough to make the point.
“My
wife is pregnant,” he said, calm but firm. “And I’m guessing that just now didn’t exactly make her feel great. An apology would be appropriate.”
Off to the side, Camille froze, her eyes widening.
Elena… pregnant?
How did things keep working out in her favor like this?
“Apologize for what-”
Landon didn’t get to finish.
The woman beside Alexander stepped forward without hesitation and slapped him across the face.
The sound was sharp enough to carry.
“Didn’t you hear him?” she said, her tone cutting.
Landon’s head turned slightly with the impact. He brought a hand up to his cheek, and just like that, all the edge drained out of him.
