“Have someone follow her, quietly,” Alexander said, his voice steady but firm. “I don’t want anything happening to her.”

He paused briefly before adding, “And look into Landon. I want a full list of who he’s been in contact with lately.”

Ryan frowned slightly, clearly caught off guard. “Sir… are you asking me to put people on both of them?”

Alexander didn’t answer the question directly. He lowered his hand and looked at Ryan with quiet authority.

“Just take care of it.”

Ryan hesitated, something unspoken lingering in his expression, but in the end he nodded. “Understood.”

After leaving, Elena didn’t go home.

Instead, she drove straight to meet Chloe. By the time Chloe got off work, they headed out together and settled into a casual late–night spot.

Chloe frowned. “This place used to be so much better. I swear the fish here was amazing before, but now it’s just… bland.”

She kept talking, picking apart the food and comparing it to how it used to taste, but after a while, she realized Elena hadn’t said a single word.

Looking up, she saw Elena sitting there with her fork in hand, completely lost in thought, her eyes unfocused as if she hadn’t heard anything.

Chloe set her fork down. “Okay, what’s going on with you?”

Elena blinked, snapping back. “What?”

“You asked me out, and now you’re ignoring me,” Chloe said, crossing her arms. “That’s rude.”

Elena forced a small smile. “Sorry.”

Chloe studied her for a second before asking more seriously, “Did you and Alexander fight?”

“He came back,” Elena replied. “We argued tonight. Right before I came to you.”

She went on to explain everything that had happened.

She shook her head, still processing it, before her tone softened slightly.

“But… about Alexander,” Chloe continued, choosing her words more carefully, “he didn’t handle it well, but I don’t think it should’ve escalated this far.”

Chloe knew Elena well.

They had become friends years ago, when Elena had stepped in without hesitation to protect her during a dangerous situation. That fearless sense of justice was exactly what defined her.

But that was also why this situation hurt so much.

If Elena didn’t care, she wouldn’t be this shaken.

Elena looked down at her plate, her voice low. “We don’t see things the same way.”

Her grip tightened slightly. “Just because Landon comes from a powerful family, does that mean the women he hurt don’t deserve justice? People like him should be exposed.”

The thought alone made her stomach turn.

Chloe nodded slowly. “You’re right about that.”

She hesitated, then added, “But what if Alexander said those things because he was trying to protect you? There were rumors before, about Landon drugging actresses and taking advantage of them. Those stories disappeared almost immediately, and even the reporters vanished. Elena, I think he was scared for you and just said it the wrong way.”
