Chapter 256 Breaking Point
Two men in black suits stepped forward, both tall and broad-shouldered, the kind of presence that made people think twice before speaking. One of them moved first, grabbing Lark’s wrist and twisting just enough to make him yelp in pain.
“Mrs. Kingsley, are you alright?” the other asked, his tone respectful.
Elena froze for half a second at the way he addressed her, and then it clicked. These men had to be arranged by Alexander. He clearly didn’t want her digging into Landon’s situation, yet he still made sure she had protection.
The realization left a strange weight in her chest, something she couldn’t quite put into words.
“I’m fine,” Elena said.
The two bodyguards stepped back into position, staying close behind Elena and Hannah, their presence subtle but unmistakable. Unless things got out of hand, they wouldn’t intervene, but now that they had, they made it clear they weren’t going anywhere.
Once they confirmed Elena was unharmed, they released Lark and took up positions inside the room. standing like silent enforcers. Their eyes stayed locked on Lark’s parents.
Lark immediately dropped his earlier bravado, clutching his wrist as he turned to his mother. “Mom, my hand really hurts…”
The moment he complained, Helena snapped into action, her temper flaring instantly. She pointed at Nicole and started yelling, her voice sharp and relentless.
“What kind of daughter are you? Siding with outsiders against your own brother? If anything happens to his hand, I swear I won’t let this go. You ungrateful little-”
The insults kept coming, harsh enough that even the bodyguards frowned.
Hannah couldn’t hold back anymore. “Watch your mouth. That’s your daughter. She just had a baby, and this is how you talk to her?”
Helena turned on her immediately. “And who are you to tell me how to raise my daughter? She made her own choices. No one forced her. If she spread her legs for a man who sweet-talked her, that’s on her, not
me.
The words were crude, cutting, and completely unapologetic.
“Enough!” Nicole’s voice broke through the room, trembling.
Tears streamed down her face as everything she had been holding in finally spilled out
“If you hadn’t taken every dollar I earned to buy Lark a house, do you think I would’ve wanted to leave?” she said, her voice shaking. “From the time I was a kid, I never mattered to you. I was just… there, so he could have a better life.”
Her shoulders trembled as she struggled to keep speaking.

“You knew what Landon was doing. You saw it, and you still pushed me toward him. And now you’re blaming me for everything?” Her voice cracked. “You brought me back, not because you cared, but because you were afraid I’d tell people what happened. Tell me honestly, have you ever treated me like your daughter?”
Her voice was raw, breaking with every word.

They reacted without hesitation, lifting Nicole carefully and moving quickly out of the room.
Elena and Hannah followed right behind.
“You can’t take her!” Helena shouted, rushing after them and blocking their way.
Elena stopped, her gaze turning ice-cold. “Move.”
There was something in her tone that made Helena instinctively step back.
They didn’t waste another second. At the hospital, Nicole was rushed through a full check. Elena stood outside the exam room, her hands clenched, her thoughts in chaos.
At first, she had only felt sympathy. Now it was something deeper.
Because in Nicole, she saw pieces of herself.
Parents who favored one child over another. Growing up without love. Mistaking manipulation for affection, only to realize it had all been a lie.
The door opened, and the doctor stepped out, pulling off his mask.
“She’s awake,” the doctor said, his tone firm. “But what were you all thinking? She just had a C-section not long ago, and you let her leave the hospital? That’s extremely dangerous. This could’ve turned life- threatening.”
