Chapter 271 What Was Left Unsaid
Alexander noticed it the moment he sat down across from her.

Her left hand rested casually by her plate, fingers relaxed, but there was nothing on her ring finger.
No ring.
Their eyes met briefly across the table, and for a second, neither of them looked away. Then Elena lowered her gaze as if nothing had happened and continued eating, her movements calm and unhurried
Gideon, who had been watching the subtle tension build between them, reached for a serving dish and placed a piece of slow–cooked ribs onto Elena’s plate.
“You haven’t looked great lately.” Gideon said, his tone easy but observant. “You need to eat something with some substance.”
Elena nodded. “Thanks.”
She didn’t argue and took a bite, chewing slowly.
Before she could finish, Alexander reached over and placed a piece of grilled corn on the cob onto her plate.
“I thought heavier food makes you feel sick,” Alexander said. “Try this instead. It’s easier on your stomach.”
His voice was calm, controlled, but the gesture carried something more deliberate beneath it.
Elena glanced at the corn, then quietly shifted her plate away before it could settle.
“I’ve already had some,” Elena said. “You should eat it.”
Before the corn even made it to Elena’s plate, she pulled it back.
Alexander’s hand paused midair, the serving spoon hovering awkwardly for a second.
He’s going to be mad
I just shut him down in front of everyone.
But he didn’t react.
Instead, Alexander simply lowered his hand, set the corn onto his own plate, and continued eating as if nothing had happened.
“That’s fine,” Alexander said. “As long as you’re not getting sick anymore.”
His tone was neutral, almost detached.
That was exactly what made something in Elena snap.
How can he sit there like this, like nothing ever happened…
Does he really think pretending is enough to erase everything…

Chapter 221 What Was Left Unsald
The irritation rose tast and sharp, killing whatever appetite she had left.
“I’m done.” Elena said, placing her fork down. “You guys can keep going”
She stood before anyone could respond and walked straight to the guest room, closing the door behind her with a quiet but final click.
The moment she was gone, the energy in the room shifted. What had been tense became something heavier, more uncomfortable.
Alexander set his fork down and was about to stand when Julian spoke.
“Mr. Kingsley,” Julian said, his tone steady, “do you have a moment?”
He knew how much Julian and his family had done for Elena, and he understood that, in her heart, they weren’t just close, they were family.
Julian’s expression gradually turned serious as he spoke. “She showed up at our door early this morning.”
He let out a quiet breath before continuing, his tone calm but firm. “I don’t know what happened between you two, and frankly, that’s your business. But Elena is carrying your child. She’s out there alone, late at night, with nowhere to go. Do you have any idea what could have happened to her?”
Julian’s gaze sharpened slightly. “The only reason she was safe is because she had somewhere to go, someone she could rely on. If she didn’t have us, where exactly were you expecting a pregnant woman to go?”
Alexander’s lashes lowered slightly, a flicker of guilt passing through his eyes.
Julian wasn’t wrong.
This was his mistake.
排
No matter what Julian said to him now, he had no right to argue back.
And admitting it wasn’t enough. He needed to reflect on it, even if he had spent the entire night awake himself.
“That’s on me,” Alexander said quietly.
Julian waved a hand, shaking his head. “This isn’t about blame,” he said. “Couples argue, that’s normal. And everything between Elena and Nathan, you probably understand better than we do. You still chose her, and she chose you. That tells me she knows exactly how much you care about her.”
He paused for a moment, then added, “But caring isn’t enough to make a marriage work. The foundation is
trust.”
He could see it clearly, the way Elena felt about Alexander, and that was exactly why he wanted them to fix things instead of letting it fall apart.
Because if things were left unsaid, the problem wouldn’t go away. It would just sit there and grow.
“You’re a businessman,” Julian continued. “You’re used to making decisions your own way. But Elena… she’s

not someone who feels secure easily. If this is how things go between you two, she’s going to feel exhausted. She’s going to feel hurt.”
His tone softened slightly. “Sometimes, as men, we need to take a step back. If something needs explaining. then explain it. If it’s time to give in, then give in.”
Alexander sat there, his expression composed, but quieter than usual.
Iris watched her husband nervously, stealing glances at Alexander. She had heard plenty about him, that he was difficult, distant, not someone you could easily reason with. Hearing Julian speak to him like this made her uneasy.
For a moment, Alexander said nothing.
Then he finally lifted his gaze, and for once, there was no cold distance in his expression, only a trace of something heavier.
“I understand,” Alexander said. “I didn’t handle this well.”
He paused briefly before adding, “I came today to take her home.”
He wasn’t going to leave her out there on her own.
Julian didn’t refuse, but he didn’t promise anything either. “Whether she goes back with you or not, that’s her decision,” Julian said. “You’ll have to figure that out yourself.”
Alexander nodded. “Thank you.”
He stood, walked down the hallway, and stopped in front of the guest room. After a brief pause, he knocked on the door.
Inside, Elena lay on the bed, eyes closed, though she wasn’t asleep.
