Chapter 280 Turning Point

She ran forward with everything she had.

Just a little further ahead was the security booth.

Elena gritted her teeth and forced herself to move faster, but by now it was already fully dark outside. The security guard inside was watching TV, completely unaware of what was happening.

Behind her, footsteps closed in quickly.

She could even smell the sweat from the men chasing her.

Just as she felt she was about to be caught, a dull grunt sounded from behind, followed by the heavy thud of someone hitting the ground.

She turned.

Alexander had appeared out of nowhere.

With one swift kick, he struck the man holding the knife in the wrist, sending the blade to the ground.

The two men immediately got into a struggle with him.

Elena didn’t stop to process what she was seeing. The security booth was right there. She rushed over and pounded hard on the door.

The guard inside was finally alerted.

Seeing what was happening, he panicked and grabbed his baton before running out.

“What’s going on? What’s happening here?”

The two men, who had been struggling with Alexander, realized they had drawn attention. They exchanged a glance and, without hesitation, ran off toward their vehicle and drove away.

Elena didn’t chase them.

Her attention was already on Alexander.

He was lying on the ground.

The air carried a faint smell of blood. The knife that had been knocked away earlier was now stained, the sight of it striking.

Her legs felt weak.

“Alexander?” Elena said as she dropped to her knees and helped him up.

The moment her hand touched him, she felt the damp warmth.

She glanced down.

Her palm was covered in blood.

“Oh no, this is serious,” the guard said anxiously, slapping his thigh. “I’m calling the police. Miss, I’ll call an ambulance. You stay with him.”

Alexander suddenly grabbed Elena’s wrist. He was still conscious.

“Don’t call the police,” Alexander said, his voice strained but clear. “You drive me. Take me to 14 Minard Street. It’s not that serious. Don’t worry.”

Even though Elena didn’t understand why he refused to let the guard call the police, she still followed his lead.

“Please don’t call,” Elena said to the guard. “Help me get him into the car.”

The guard hesitated, clearly conflicted. If the police got involved, he might also be held responsible for negligence.

He glanced at Alexander, saw that he was still conscious, and quickly helped Elena get him into the car.

Elena started the engine.

“Take me to 14 Minard Street,” Alexander said again, frowning slightly.

“You’re already injured like this and you still don’t want to go to the hospital?” Elena asked, unable to hide her confusion. “What is at that address?”

Even so, she knew Alexander wouldn’t disregard his own condition, so she pressed down on the gas and drove.

Luckily, the roads were clear at this hour.

Fifteen minutes later, the car stopped in front of 14 Minard Street. The sign was still lit. It was a private clinic.

Elena quickly helped Alexander out of the car.

“Don’t worry, it’s nothing serious,” Alexander said, even as his weight leaned heavily against her.

Elena held back her tears and helped him inside.

“What happened?” Sullivan asked. He had just seen off a patient and hadn’t even returned to his office yet when Elena brought Alexander in.

There was no time for explanations.

He immediately called for a nurse and had Alexander taken into the treatment room.

Elena sat outside waiting.

Her hands were covered in Alexander’s blood, and it felt as though it had soaked into her skin. There were stains on her sleeves as well. She took out tissues and tried to wipe them clean, but no matter how much she tried, it wouldn’t come off.

A nurse on duty noticed and walked over. “Miss, the restroom is over there. Would you wash up?”

“Okay, thank you,” Elena said, forcing a small smile as she stood and walked toward the

restroom.

She turned on the faucet and slowly washed the blood from her hands, but her mind kept replaying the moment Alexander stepped in without hesitation.

Her nose stung.

She covered her face, holding back her emotions. At that moment, her phone rang.

She wiped her face, took out her phone, and saw that it was Iris calling.

She steadied herself before answering. “Iris.”
