Chapter 282 What You’re Not Telling Me
After holding her for a long moment. Alexander finally let go
Elena straightened slightly, then looked at him and asked, “So can you tell me now, why you couldn’t be honest with me before?”
Alexander reached up and gently brushed the loose strands of hair away from her face. Do you really want to know?”
Elena frowned at him. “What do you think?”
Alexander looked at her for a second before speaking slowly, “If I tell you, then from this point on, you don’t get to leave the Kingsley family. Even if one day you decide you want a divorce. 1 won’t agree. Are you sure you still want to hear it?”

Elena let out a small breath, then pinched his arm lightly, clearly annoyed. “You’re being really irritating right now. Just say it.”
The faint smile on Alexander’s face faded.
“My father’s death,” Alexander said quietly, “most likely wasn’t an accident. There’s a strong chance my uncle Simon was involved.”
Elena froze.
“You’re serious?” she asked, her voice tightening.
She had heard before that Alexander and Simon didn’t get along. Not long after Alexander took over Pinnacle Group, Simon left and started EverRise Holdings on his own.
But when she had met him before, he had seemed distant at most, not someone who would go that far.
“I’m still investigating,” Alexander said. “It’s been years, and cases like this don’t leave behind clean evidence. It’s not easy to dig everything back up.”
As he spoke, he pulled her closer, resting her against his chest.
“The Kingsley family isn’t as calm as it looks from the outside,” Alexander continued. “About my condition, only my mom knows. Even my grandfather has no idea. It’s not that I wanted to hide it from you…”
Elena understood immediately.
If Simon really had intentions against Alexander, then once news of his bipolar disorder got

And Pinnacle Group would never accept someone with a mental health condition as its leader.
For the sake of the company, Walter might very well choose to give up on Alexander.
The room fell quict.
All the frustration and confusion she had felt earlier dissolved, replaced entirely by a dull ache in her chest.
No wonder back then, when they were living out there, he had refused to see people and kept himself shut inside that small space.
“I’m sorry,” Elena said softly.
“It’s my fault.”
Alexander’s expression softened as he gently ran his hand through her hair, then explained further, “Fiona’s father was my mentor. I had an episode at their place once, and she happened to be there, so she knows about my condition. That’s why I kept her close and had her work as my secretary.”
Everything finally made sense.
The heaviness that had been sitting in Elena’s chest slowly lifted.
“Then now that you’ve let her go,” Elena asked, “will it affect you in any way?”
Alexander raised an eyebrow slightly. “So should I bring her back?”
Elena gave him a look. “That’s not necessary. It’s fine. Sullivan already said your condition can be managed with medication, as long as you rest properly and don’t put too much pressure on yourself.”
And I’ll stay with you this time.
Alexander’s hand moved unconsciously, sliding down until his fingers found her left hand.
Her ring finger was bare.
His expression darkened slightly, and he pinched it without holding back.
Elena flinched. “Ow, what was that for?”
“Punishment,” Alexander said, his tone displeased. “Who told you to take your wedding ring off like that?”

Elena clicked her tongue, then pulled away from him, opened her bag, and took out the ring before slipping it back onto her finger.
“There. Happy now?”
“Don’t take it off again,” Alexander said, tightening his grip on her hand.
“I won’t.”
Elena leaned in and kissed him lightly on the lips.
That night, she stayed at the clinic to keep him company. Although it was called a clinic, the place was fully equipped with high-end medical facilities, and the room they were in was more like a private hospital suite.
Sullivan knew she would be staying, so he had a nurse bring in a fold-out bed for her.
The next morning, Elena originally planned to take the day off and have Matteo and Hannah keep an eye on things at the company.
But before she even had the chance to notify anyone, Hannah called first.
“Elena, someone just showed up at the office asking to see you,” Hannah said.
Elena could hear something off in her tone. She glanced at Alexander, who was still resting with his eyes closed, then stepped out of the room and asked, “Who is it?”
“Riona,” Hannah replied. “She said she has something she needs to talk to you about.”
Just as expected.
Elena wasn’t surprised at all.
