The Lycan Prinee’s Wolfless Slave (Academy Romance)
Chapter 190
He adjusts his black shirt, his dark eyes locked onto mine. “Because I know how special this place is to you. You needed to be away from them.”
I look at him speechlessly. My mind is a tangled mess of confusion and suspicion. I want to believe he’s being kind, but I can’t forget the past. I wonder what his endgame is this time. Is he not the same guy who told me that I was worthless just a few weeks ago? Is he not the one who treated me like I was
dirty and beneath him? Why is he suddenly playing the savior? Why is he being sweet to me again?
Kai notices the look on my face. His brow furrows. “What?”
I brace myself, balling my hands into fists at my sides. “Why are you being nice to me again?”
He doesn’t answer right away. He just stares at me silently. As he stays quiet, I can’t help but notice his dark, strikingly handsome looks. He’s wearing all black, his dark hair slightly messy from the run, looking every bit like a scary, evil lord who crawled out of the shadows.
He takes a slow step toward me.
I suck in a sharp breath and immediately take a step back. A wave of nervousness and panic hits me. “I asked you a question, Kai.”
He doesn’t stop. He takes another step forward, his eyes never leaving mine.
“W–What are you doing?” I stutter as my back hits the rough wall of the cliff side. I have nowhere left to run.
Kai closes the distance completely and stops right in front of me. He is so close that our chests are lightly touching with every breath we take. Suddenly, the air feels entirely too thick. I can’t breathe properly. The beautiful, sweet smell of the oasis flowers mixes with the sharp, intoxicating scent of his skin and cologne. It makes my head swim with a sudden, unwanted spark of desire.
Wait. Desire? No. I shake my head internally. I can’t feel desire for him. Not after how he has humiliated me repeatedly. I can’t let myself be that weak.
I place both my palms flat against his solid chest, trying to push him away/ “Move back.”
He doesn’t budge. He feels like a solid brick wall. Instead of stepping away, he moves even closer, his large hands reaching out to grip my waist. He drags me
forward, pulling my body flush against his.
“I think you of all people should know why I’m here, Lyra,” he murmurs, his voice dropping to a low baritone.
I twist in his grip, still trying to press my hands into his chest to create space, “Why? To lord over everyone else like you love do? To show my pack how
powerful you are?”
“I’m here for you,” he says, his grip tightening on my waist, holding me so securely that I can barely move. “To protect you. To make sure no one ever hurts
you again.”
I let out a harsh, bitter laugh, looking up to meet his dark gaze. “No one but you, huh?”
Kai opens his mouth to answer, but I cut him off before he can speak.
“Tell me one thing, Kai,” I say in a trembling voice. “When you saw that post online. When you saw that picture of me and Ryan in that bed… what was your first thought? Did you trust me? Did you trust that I didn’t do it on purpose? Or did you think the worst of me, just like you usually do?”
Kai goes completely still. A heavy silence stretches between us. He doesn’t answer. He just lowers his gaze, looking down at the grass between us, unable to

meet my eyes–
I let out another sad, broken laugh, shaking my head as a cold weight settles in my chest.
“Of course you wouldn’t,” I whisper, feeling the tears threatening to spill over again. “Because you could never trust me. You always think I’m hiding
