“Headquarters is calling

The assistant looked at William with sympathy.

William took a deep breath and answered. Before he could utter a word, his superior roared down the line.

“I told you to secure the deal with Elena Sterling! Is this how you handle your work?”

“I’ll reach out to her and renegotiate.”

“What’s the point now? She’s already signed with Innovatech. It’s clear you never focused on your job. You’re fired!”

The line went dead with a sharp click.

William’s face alternated between pale and livid. The position as LA Group’s project manager was hard- earned, yet thanks to Elena, he had just lost it.

Elena paid no heed to William’s fate. Though the contract with Innovatech was signed, countless follow–up details remained to be sorted out, keeping her fully occupied.

“Ms. Sterling, LA Group has called repeatedly. They said William has been dismissed,” Lucas reported honestly.

“They still hope to cooperate with you. Their pricing is far lower than Innovatech’s, and they’re willing to offer further discounts. They also asked that if you decline this time, please keep them in mind for future projects.”

Lucas watched Elena’s expression as he spoke. He had been stunned when LA’s contact reached out. As a global supplier of electronic materials, the giant firm had no reason to humble itself over a single partnership. Yet their attitude was utterly sincere, ready to accept nearly any terms she set.

Elena paused typing and removed her glasses. “Tell them we have a binding contract with Innovatech and will not break our agreement. Still, I appreciate their good faith. We may consider working together again if opportunities arise down the line.”

After relaying her reply, Lucas brought up travel arrangements. “Shall I book your flight for the day after tomorrow morning?”

While the partnership was confirmed, many details required in–person discussions, meaning Elena had to travel to Morven.

She massaged the bridge of her nose. “Hold off for now. We’ll decide tomorrow.”

“Understood.”

Lucas exited quietly, closing the office door behind him.

Elena finished work early that afternoon and headed to Pinnacle Group to see Alexander.

Her people had been investigating the company lately, but found no signs of trouble. Simon and Carol also scented calm, busy playing matchmaker for Sophia and Edmund.

Oddly enough, Sophia, who had once been utterly devoted to Edmund, appeared to have moved on. She turned down his repeated invitations and threw herself entirely into work:

Elena stepped out of the elevator on the executive floor and came across Fiona and Ryan unexpectedly.

‘Hello.” Elena nodded to him, acting as if Fiona was not there. “Is Alex in his office?”

She had not told Alexander she would visit.

‘Yes, he is.”

Fiona ignored Elena too and spoke to Ryan, “I just finished talking with Alex. Please call me anytime if issues come up. And thank him again for me. The Scott family would never have made a comeback without his help.”

She spoke while keeping a close eye on Elena’s face, hoping to rouse a reaction. But Elena’s features remained completely impassive, which dulled Fiona’s interest.

Elena paid no mind to Fiona’s petty ploys and walked straight into Alexander’s office.

He was in the middle of a video conference. Seeing her enter, he held up a hand to signal her to wait, then carried on with the discussion.

The meeting ended soon after. Alexander took off his headset.

‘Finished work early today?” He sat beside her and pulled her gently into his arms.

‘Just felt like leaving early. When’s your next treatment?”

‘The day after tomorrow. Why?”

‘I have to fly to Morven on a business trip. I was going to book a flight for then, but I’ll reschedule.”
