Catherine pursed her lips. “That’s not what I meant… when you think about it, this is all Elena’s fault for making things so messy.”

Camille was furious.

She had thought blowing everything up would finally make her relationship with Nathan public.

But in the end, she was still the one stuck in an awkward position.

‘So what, I’m supposed to live like this forever? Babe, Mom, this is killing me. I’d rather just die!”

This time, Camille really meant it. Thinking about what Nathan had said earlier, all the frustration inside her had nowhere to go.

Nathan suppressed his impatience and walked over, pulling her into his arms.

His tone softened as he apologized. “I know this is hard on you. I really do. But I’m doing this so we can navé a better future. Just hang in there a little longer, okay?”

Camille leaned against him, the bitterness in her chest slowly easing.

‘Then promise me, you can’t have feelings for Elena, okay? It has to be just me.”

Nathan nodded. “Don’t be silly. You’ve always been the only one. What I have with Elena is just for show.”

Camille broke into a smile through her tears.

As long as she had his heart, nothing else mattered.

Monday morning at nine, Elena arrived at Velmora Media right on time, just as stated in her offer letter.

She wore a light blue blouse with a fitted white skirt and low–cut nude heels, giving her a polished, professional look. The moment she stepped into the office, people started whispering.

‘That’s Elena, right? I’ve seen her online. She really is pretty.”

“With everything blowing up online, I can’t believe the company still hired her.”

“She doesn’t look like someone easy to push around.”

Elena heard every word.

And that was exactly the effect she wanted. She wouldn’t go out of her way to pick fights, but she wasn’t about to let anyone walk over her either.

“Miss Sterling? Sorry to keep you waiting.”

The HR who had handled her interview came out of the office and greeted her politely. “I’ll take you to your department.”

“Velmora Media has only risen in the past few years, but we have quite a few well–known journalists and hosts here. I hope you enjoy working with us.”

The HR smiled warmly.

Elena nodded lightly. Seeing her reaction, the HR’s smile turned a bit more curious as she lowered her voice. “So, what’s your relationship with Ryan?”

‘Hm?”

Hearing Ryan’s name caught Elena off guard.

‘He was the one who referred your resume to me and specifically asked that we keep you. Are you two related?”

The HR was clearly fishing for information.

‘Velmora Media is part of Pinnacle Group?”

Elena suddenly realized something.

Her guess was confirmed immediately. “It’s a wholly owned subsidiary of Pinnacle Group. You didn’t <now?”

Elena fell silent.

Now she finally understood why the hiring process had gone so smoothly.

Looks like she owed Alexander another favor.

Seeing that Elena wasn’t interested in gossip, the HR didn’t push further. She had already heard that Elena was married to the Hawthorne family’s heir, though their relationship wasn’t great, and now there seemed to be a connection with Ryan as well. None of this was something a small HR like her should dig into.

Still, her attitude became noticeably more respectful.

When they reached the media department, the HR led her into an office. “Miss Brown, she’s here. Elena has a strong track record. I’ll leave her in your hands.”

This was the short–haired woman from the interview.

Elena glanced at the nameplate on the desk, Lydia Brown. The IIR didn’t stay long and left after a brief exchange.

Now only Elena and Lydia remained in the office.

The smile on Lydia’s face faded slightly as she picked up Elena’s resume. “I’ve reviewed your background. It’s solid. But everyone working here has strong credentials. People get in based on ability, and if you’re relying on connections, you won’t last long.”
