Chapter 700 Showing Off Their Talents
This crowd of bizarre–looking monkeys was so exotic and eye–catching–it felt almost dazzling.
The sun was just rising in the distance, barely above the horizon, casting golden light over the earth. That golden glow fell on the monkeys, making them sparkle.
From the patches of unmutated fur, it was clear they were originally golden snub–nosed monkeys.
With sunlight shining on their golden fur, they gleamed beautifully.
And the funniest thing was, these monkeys looked like they were putting on a circus act.
Some were stacking themselves on top of each other, some juggled balls back and forth, and others did somersaults in place. It was quite the lively scene.
No wonder Raven and Jet were both transfixed. When Caroline and Tyler came up and saw all this, they were stunned for a few seconds too.
But soon, Caroline grew wary and thought–Are these monkeys performing some kind of ritual? Or are they preparing to use some kind of impressive ability?
Just then, Jet spoke up.
“They are so pitiful. Human, can you give them some food? Just take it out of my rations.”
Caroline looked over in disbelief–Jet actually wanted to share his own food?
Turned out, while he hovered up there for that short while, Jet had already exchanged a few thoughts with those monkeys.
This place used to have a big circus. All these monkeys had come from there.
After the apocalypse, all the people in the circus died, but the monkeys survived with their sneaky skills.
It sounded like a joke, but that was really how they lived.
They’d become a local menace.
At first, they stole from civilians. After a while, they got bolder and started stealing from the shelters.

Besides their strange appearance, their mutation also boosted reproduction–which meant they bred like crazy.
There had been only five or six monkeys at first, but in one year of apocalypse, their numbers had grown to over a hundred.
The shelter had a lot of ability users, and they’d tried to wipe out the monkeys in the past several times.
But the monkeys were fast, slippery, and could steal things without making a sound.
From tiny babies to grown adults, every single one was a natural–born thief.
They drove everyone crazy.
Eventually, the shelter packed up and moved away. Word was, they left the city on purpose, but it was probably because they couldn’t take the monkeys anymore.
After the shelter left, the other civilians followed.
At this point, the city had turned into a ghost town.
The monkeys had nothing to eat now.
Some of the newborns even starved to death.
But thanks to their evolution, they just kept on having more babies.
As things went on, the pressure on the group only grew.
Even the monkey king was nothing but skin and bones, not to mention the others.
Caroline’s group were the only humans to come into the city in a long time.
The monkeys smelled humans and figured food had arrived, so they swiftly rushed over.
But with Raven standing guard, none of them dared get close.
Still, they were hungry. They wanted food.
So, the ex–circus monkeys started their performance.
While Jet hovered, he heard their desperate pleas–Please, have mercy, give us some food.
The pitiful voices had actually moved Jet.

After hearing Jet’s explanation, Caroline looked at all those big, pleading eyes and felt speechless–she couldn’t help but remember those notorious monkeys at tourist sites before the apocalypse, always snatching food from tourists.
Unlike Jet, who felt sorry for them, she really didn’t feel any fondness.
