Chapter 36

There were five sinks. Andrea placed one storage bottle in each.

Several faucets were mounted directly on the wall with no visible pipes. She guessed they were some kind of special item.

She turned on a faucet. Clear water streamed into the bottle without making a sound.

Her heart leaped with joy. No need to worry about waking Russell.

The water here felt much purer than tap water back in the real world. Andrea decided to stock up for herself while she had the chance.

An hour later, she sent one bottle to each of her three partners.

It would take at least four hours to fill a single bottle, so she’d keep the supply flowing.

Their water had sold out long ago. When they received the storage bottles, they expressed curiosity and surprise but didn’t ask any questions. They just got back to work.

And

So,

Andrea spent the entire night stationed by the kitchen faucet, filling bottles.

At 6:00 AM, dawn was breaking.

Andrea put away the storage bottles.

She’d collected nearly 100 tons of water that night.

The three in the Happy Daysgroup were also exhausted. Andrea told them to get some rest and said she’d call on them again when needed.

She lay down on a bench in the main hall, planning to rest a bit.

Around 8:00 AM, she got up, opened the front door, and prepared to receive customers.

Russell was still upstairs, snoring like a tractor. Even downstairs, she could hear him.

He wasn’t worried, but here I was, the hired help, stressing out.

In the kitchen, she cooked a large pot of soupfor herself. She planned to take any leftovers with her.

She had just filled a bowl and sat down at a table when a green head suddenly popped up in front of her.

It was the greenhaird kid.

What are you eating? It smells so good!

It first peeked at her bowl with one eye, then dug around in its own fur and pulled out one gold coin, placing it on the table.

I want a bowl,it said. Then it struggled onto a chair, sat down, swung its thin little legs, and looked at her with an expectant expression.

Andrea Rowland: []

Andrea strongly suspected that this was the very same gold coin she’d put in its pouch earlier.

Helpless, she sighed, went back to the kitchen, and brought out another bowl of soup.

The kid ate enthusiastically, hissing and huffing as it burned its tongue but never stopping.

Andrea scraped the cooler soup from the edge of her bowl as she ate, keeping her eyes on the chick.

I wonder if this little thing knows anything.

When the kid had almost finished, she tested the waters. Kid, do you know if this shop has a recipe book?

No sooner had she spoken than the kid put a tiny claw to its beak. Shhh.”

Andrea’s lips curled up slightly. Bingo.

The greenhaird kid finished the soup in a hurry, let out a big satisfied burp, then craned its neck close to her ear.

That recipe book you mentioned last time? I found it. I’ll bring it to you tomorrow, later in the day.

Last time?she doubted.

She instantly understood. Just as she’d suspected, this kid knew the Orion.

Okay, she said, nodding at the kid. Then she gave it a little more soup.

The greenhaird kid’s belly was so distended it looked like it might burst before it finally waddled slowly out of the shop.

At the door, it turned back mysteriously and gave Andrea an OKsign.

Just then, Russell came downstairs and saw the kid leaving.

So young and already making those weird hand gestures, and you can’t even do them right!

Muttering to himself, he staggered over to Andrea’s table and sat down. I want a bowl too.

Andrea resigned herself to her fate and brought out the last bowl of soup.

The pot was completely clean. She’d put a lot of good ingredients in it. She’d been hoping to save some for herself.

She thought, Oh well. Once I go back to my island and have a bowl of Dustin’s soup, I probably won’t be able to eat my own cooking anymore.

Russell ate slowly and deliberately. She wasn’t in a hurry anymore.

She’d been worried that with him drinking so much last night, he might sleep all day and she’d lose her chance to search for the recipe book.

But with the greenhaird kid’s help, now that she had some free time, her thoughts turned back to getting more water.

As she was thinking, she looked at the faucet above the sink and fell into contemplation.

Just as she studying the faucet, the boss called out to her from the hall.

Orion! Come wait on a customer!

She felt strange. A customer? That was unusual.

She came into the hall and frowned slightly when she saw who it was.

It was the birdfolk who’d been flying through the city that day. She wondered if he’d ended up getting fined. Andrea quickly composed her expression and asked respectfully, What would you like to order, sir?

The brownwinged Birdfolk, seated at a large round table in the center, looked up at her.

His eyes were clearly hostile and probing.

He didn’t answer her question. Instead, he turned to the fat boss. “So this dump of yours actually hired someone new?

She hadn’t thought this birdperson seemed like a good guy, but that comment perfectly pleased her.

Finally, a birdfolk with some sense!

What do you mean, a dump? I run a legitimate business. How is it a dump?Russell retorted, leaning against the cash counter. He looked at the birdfolk with displeasure.

And why did you bring a human to my place? So disgusting.”

Andrea’s heart skipped a beat. She suddenly rememberedthis Birdfolk had been carrying a human when he entered the city.

Birdfolk irritably tugged on a chain in his hand. Only then did Andrea see the human player who had been lying at his feet.

As the Birdfolk pulled the chain, the human lifted his head in pain.

Andrea’s pupils dilated for an instant when she saw his face.

It was Horace!

She quickly turned sideways, hiding her features. She didn’t want her identity exposed now.

Even though she appeared as Orion the Horn Beast to the NPCs, she couldn’t be sure that Horace’s words wouldn’t make these two birdfolks suspicious and interfere with her mission.
