Ryan silenced the shrill alarm with a flick of his wrist, his long, elegant fingers a blur across the keyboard.

On the main screen, the red dot representing the intruder was like a leech, having already breached the firewall.

On the computer screen, the little red dot paused for two seconds, then rapidly retreated towards the terminal, clearly thinking they had succeeded and were eager to send the core data back.

What they didn’t know was that in those brief seconds, Ryan Walker had already attached a Trojan program he had specially prepared, in fragmented form, to the end of the file.

This was a tracking program he had written specifically for Natalie Parker. It would not only record the IP address and operation time of any device that opened the file, but also automatically activate the computer’s camera to capture the user’s facial features.

Once Natalie opened the file, all the evidence would be synchronized in real–time to the National Security Agency’s encrypted server.

“You can’t escape now.”

Ryan quickly completed the final section of the tracking code, and a green “Synchronization Successful” notification popped up in the lower right corner of the screen.

Now, all he had to do was wait for Natalie to open the data, and the National Security Agency would have the evidence they needed to prove she was stealing national secrets.

Of course, this data was also fake.

Ryan Walker leaned back in his chair, rubbing his aching churchs.

He thought about what he had heard while assisting the National Security Agency in capturing Apex’s overseas executive.

“The Carter Group CEO personally guaranteed that Apex’s would not betray national secrets.”
