Chapter 133
As evening approached, Vivian was safely escorted by the security detail sent by Noah to a five–star hotel near the hospital. The room had been pre–booked, and security measures were tight.
As soon as she entered the room, she immediately called Clara.
“Clara, I’m safe. Thank God Han’s assistant’s people got there in time. I was scared to death back there.”
“I’m glad you’re okay.”
Clara’s voice was soft, laced with concern.“Did they hurt you at all?”
“No, they were just following me. They didn’t get a chance to do anything before Mr. Han’s people showed up,” Vivian replied.
Warmth bloomed in Vivian’s chest.“But, Clara, I remembered something.”
Clara’s interest piqued, and she sat up straighter.“What is it?”
“Before my father left the Bennett Group, he was organizing some old files, and he accidentally came across Eric Clark’s private notes.”
Vivian lowered her voice, a note of caution creeping in.“The notes mentioned a collaboration between Bennett Group and an overseas company twenty years ago. It also mentioned a ‘Classified Files‘ hidden in a secret room in the Bennett Ancestral Estate. I didn’t see the exact location, but the notes mentioned keywords like ‘study, “bookshelf,‘ and ‘hidden compartment.”
Clara’s breath hitched, and she asked quickly, “Are you sure? Was there any other information in the notes? Like company names or people’s names?”
Dad said the notes mentioned a name, I think it was ‘Daniel Quinn,” Vivian answered.
Daniel Quinn?
Daniel Quinn again!
Clara and Ryan exchanged a look, both seeing shock and understanding in each other’s eyes as all the pieces clicked into place.
That made sense. What Daniel Quinn was after was the classified files hidden in the secret room of the Bennett Ancestral Estate. Those files must contain the dirty secrets of his collaboration with the Bennett Group twenty years ago, maybe even evidence of illegal
activities on both sides.
Clara gripped her phone, her voice filled with barely restrained excitement. “Vivian, are you sure about all this?”
“Yes.”
Vivian’s tone was absolutely certain.“After realizing I was being followed this afternoon, I’ve been racking my brain about it. I even called my dad just now to double–check, and he’s absolutely sure.”
“I think the people who were following me are likely connected to this.”
“Oh, and there’s one more thing that might be related to the people who were following me.”
Vivian paused, a hint of hesitation in her voice.
“Just now, Mr. Carter from the Carter Group contacted me. He threatened my family, wanting me to help him find your weaknesses.”
Hearing this, Clara understood everything.

Daniel Quinn had just returned to the country. Even if he were incredibly resourceful, there’s no way he would know about Vivian’s connection to her.
It seemed the people who were following Vivian were most likely sent by Ethan Carter.
It seemed he wanted to use Vivian to find out her weaknesses, to threaten her, and make her give up the idea of a divorce.
Disgust twisted in Clara’s stomach as the thought crossed her mind.
She and Ethan had a clear agreement. They were supposed to go to the courthouse and finalize their divorce through mediation.
And here he was, pulling another stunt behind her back!
Was he trying to force her hand, to tear away the last shred of decency between them?!
Was his stubborn refusal to divorce driven by some twisted idea of love for her, or just a deep–seated habit of relying on her sacrifices over the years, now warped into an obsession?
“But I didn’t agree to it.”
Not hearing Clara’s response, Vivian grew anxious, immediately adding, her tone even laced with a hint of pride.
“Clara, you’ve been so good to me and my family. Even if it means suffering myself, I would never betray you. I secretly recorded him. All his threats, I got them on tape.”
“These recordings might serve as evidence of Ethan coercing others. Maybe they can even help you.”
A wave of warmth washed over Clara.“Vivian, thank you.”
“Don’t worry. I’ll have people protect your family. I’ll take care of your brother’s tuition and your parents‘ medical bills from now on. You don’t need to worry about anything.”
“Clara, no need…”
Vivian quickly declined.
“This isn’t a negotiation. It’s an order.”
Clara’s voice was firm.“Your job now is to stay put in the hotel, keep yourself safe, and don’t go out.”
“If you need anything at all, call me anytime. Noah has people guarding the door, so don’t worry about security.”
“Once this is all over, I’ll give you a long vacation so you can spend some quality time with your family. And I’ll take you abroad to
unwind.”
“Okay, thank you, Clara.”
Hanging up, Clara went into the hospital room. She kept Ethan’s involvement a secret, relaying Vivian’s words to Ryan.
“Ryan, we’ve found a breakthrough. Once we get our hands on those Classified Files, we’ll know what Daniel is really after.”
“Maybe we can even draw Daniel out and find out where Nathan is!”
Ryan looked at the light in her eyes, and a wave of tenderness washed over him. He reached out, gently stroking her hair, his voice filled with affection and reassurance.
“You’re right. What we need to do now is get those files as soon as possible.”
Hearing Ryan’s praise, Clara blushed slightly and turned her head away, feeling a little awkward.

“I’ve already contacted Victor. We’re meeting at a teahouse near the Old Estate tonight at eight to exchange information.”
At 7:30 PM, Ryan and Clara left the Hospital and headed to the teahouse where they were supposed to meet Victor
Ryan Walker watched from the passenger seat as Clara Bennett’s fingers unconsciously traced patterns on the steering wheel.
Sensing her anxiety, he murmured reassuringly, “Don’t be nervous. I’m here. Nothing’s going to happen.”
“Victor Bennett knows everything now. It’s clear he’s siding with you over the Bennett Group. Just be careful.”
Clara glanced at Ryan during a stoplight, nodding.“Mm.”
“I’m not nervous. With you here, I’m not afraid of anything.”
This man always seemed to notice the slightest shifts in her emotions.
The car pulled up in front of the teahouse.
Several bodyguards Ryan had arranged in advance were already waiting. Seeing them get out of the car, they immediately approached, their voices hushed.
“Mr. Walker, Ms. Bennett, everything is set inside. No anomalies detected. Our people are positioned throughout the teahouse, inside and out, ensuring your safety.”
Ryan nodded, took Clara’s hand, and walked into the teahouse.
The teahouse was quaint and elegant, filled with the subtle fragrance of tea. There weren’t many patrons, and most were engaged in quiet conversations, creating a peaceful atmosphere.
Victor Bennett sat in the designated private room, a cup of steaming tea in front of him, its vapor swirling gently.
He was dressed in a dark suit, his face drawn and tired, his eyes bloodshot.
Seeing them enter, Victor immediately stood up, wanting to greet them, but stopped when he saw the calm expression on Clara’s face, and said awkwardly, “Clara… you’re here.”
Clara didn’t say anything, just nodded, and pulled Ryan to sit down across from him.
Ryan cut to the chase, “Mr. Bennett, we’re on a tight schedule. Let’s get straight to the point. What have you uncovered about the Bennett Group’s collaboration with QJ twenty years ago?”
Victor pulled a stack of documents from his briefcase and placed them on the table.
The papers were creased, clearly having been reviewed repeatedly.
“This is what I’ve found. Twenty years ago, the Bennett Group partnered with a company called QJ on a senior care and medical project called Project Far Horizon. The actual person in control of that company was Daniel Quinn.”
Victor’s face darkened as he recalled the information in the documents.
“This elder care and medical project, on the surface, was just about developing anti–aging drugs and treatments, but in reality. it involved human organ trafficking.”
“QJ provided the organs, and the Bennett Group contacted wealthy businesspeople and elite families to arrange transplants for them, to extend their lifespans.”

“Later, as the laws and customs systems became more sophisticated, they probably decided the risks were too high, and both parties terminated the partnership.”
“However, the Bennett family had already made connections with these people because of it, and that’s how we’ve grown so successful
over the years.”
“Back then, Mom was in charge of finances at the Bennett Group, and I suspect she was silenced because she found out something.”
The only question was whether Richard Bennett or Daniel Quinn was the mastermind behind it all.
The thought filled Victor Bennett’s eyes with hatred.
The idea that the Bennett Group had grown through such a vile business disgusted him.
Ryan Walker picked up the file and quickly scanned through it, finding records of fund transfers from back then, along with anonymous testimonies from employees. The chain of evidence wasn’t complete, but it was enough to point fingers at both Daniel Quinn and Richard Bennett.
Confirming what Victor Bennett had said, he grasped Clara Bennett’s cold hand and gave a barely perceptible nod.
Clara felt a wave of dizziness wash over her. So Richard’s wickedness wasn’t a recent development, fueled by the Bennett family’s
newfound wealth.
It had been there all along, festering for two decades. And there was no way her mother, as astute as she was, wouldn’t have sensed the deception of the man beside her in bed.
Diane, planted by Daniel to keep tabs on Richard, had murdered her mother–killing two birds with one stone–both burying the truth and ensuring her own smooth entry into the Bennett family.
Even if Richard didn’t know Diane was the mastermind behind the car accident, he was still complicit in her mother’s death.
If he hadn’t engaged in those shady dealings with Daniel Quinn, how could her mother have died?
Clara fought back the outrage in her heart and spoke slowly, but her hoarse voice betrayed her emotions.
“The classified files are hidden in a secret room at the Bennett Ancestral Estate.”
“Eric Clark’s private notes mentioned it. The specific location is a hidden compartment in the bookshelf in the study.
“One of my mother’s subordinates revealed this.”
She still harbored a trace of wariness towards Victor, so she didn’t reveal Vivian’s name.
Victor’s eyes lit up.“Really?”
“Yes.”
Clara nodded.
Seeing that Clara didn’t want to talk, Ryan spoke up, “We need to get those files as soon as possible. Otherwise, if Daniel Quinn or Richard realize you’re investigating this, they might destroy the evidence.”
“The problem now is how to enter the Bennett Ancestral Estate without alerting them, find the hidden compartment, and get the files.”
Victor pondered for a moment and said, “No one lives in the Old Estate now. Only an old caretaker manages it.”
“I can go back to Boston under the pretense of visiting the old caretaker and commemorating my mother, and see if I can find the hidden compartment in the bookshelf in the study.”

“I’m going with you.”
Clara spoke immediately, her eyes filled with urgency, “I know the Old Estate well, I might be able to help.”
She was desperate to get her hands on the evidence and bring those who had killed her mother to justice.
“No way.”
Ryan objected, “Given your current relationship with the Bennett family, a sudden visit to the Old Estate will definitely arouse Richard’s suspicion.”
He turned to Victor, his tone serious, “Mr. Bennett, I’m afraid we’ll have to trouble you with this.”

“You go inside to find the file. I’ll arrange for people to be stationed outside the Old Estate to assist you. Once you get the file, evacuate immediately, and we’ll cover your escape.”
As long as they got the file, they could bring Daniel and Richard to justice, and then Nathan would naturally be safe.
Victor nodded, “Okay, I’ll leave tonight. The old caretaker at the Old Estate received kindness from my mother when he was down on his luck and followed her for many years.”
“After my mother left the Bennett family, he wanted to leave with her, but she asked him to stay and take care of me.”
Here, he paused, looking at Clara, “Don’t worry, I can have him help me as a cover. Everything will be fine.”
“Be careful.”
Even if Victor seemed genuinely intent on avenging their mother, it didn’t mean he could erase all the things he’d done before.
Clara’s subconscious expression of concern made her feel awkward, and she looked away, muttering, “I’m not worried about you. I just want to make sure you can get the information out safely.”
Little did she know, she looked just like she did as a child after a fight with Victor.
Victor’s
eyes
welled up
when he saw her like this, and his voice trembled with emotion.“Don’t worry, I’ll be careful.”
“Clara, thank you for believing in me. I will get those files and avenge Mom.”
Ryan stood, breaking the strange tension between the siblings.
“We should split up now. There’s no time to waste.”
“Clara, I’ll have people watching over you on your way back to Boston. Contact me if anything happens.”
“Clara and I will stay in Chicago, contact the police, and prepare the paperwork to arrest Daniel Quinn and Richard Bennett. Once we have the documents, we move in.”
“Okay.”
Victor stood and grabbed the files.“I’ll leave now.”
He could drive to Boston and arrive by tomorrow evening.
Watching Victor walk away, a complicated mix of emotions welled up in Clara.
“Don’t worry,” Ryan said.
Sensing her emotions, Ryan reached out and held her close.

“No matter what, you two are siblings with the same mother. Now that he knows the truth, his desire to avenge your mother is no less than yours.”
Clara rested her head against his chest.“I hope so. We’ve waited too long, and we can’t afford any more mistakes.”
“There won’t be.”
Ryan’s voice was deep and reassuring.“Soon, we’ll have the evidence we need to bring all the bad guys to justice, and your mother’s spirit will finally be at peace.”

The next evening, Bennett Ancestral Estate.
The old caretaker was in the yard, watering flowers, when he saw Victor enter. A look of surprise spread across his face.
“Master Bennett, weren’t you heading to Chicago? What brings you back to Boston? It’s late, and it’s chilly out here. Come on in and
have a seat.”
“Uncle Lee, I came to check on you.”
Victor offered a gentle smile, his tone respectful.
“The Bennett Group has been going through a lot lately. I’ve been so busy. How’s health?”
“Good, good. Still kicking.”
your
Uncle Lee said with a smile, leading Victor into the house.“Master Bennett, please sit down. I’ll pour you a cup of tea.”
Victor sat on the sofa in the living room, his gaze casually drifting towards the study. The thought that the very thing he wanted was in that room made him feel a bit nervous.
Taking a deep breath, he fought to compose himself.“Uncle Lee, I’d like to go into my mother’s study for a bit.”
“It’s been a while since I’ve been in there. I wanted to look at her things, remember her.”
A shadow passed over Uncle Lee’s face, and he nodded.
“Of course. The study’s just as it always was. I’ll take you
there.”
Victor Bennett followed Uncle Lee into the study. Everything was just as he remembered it, even the fountain pen and notebook Linda Bennett used to use still on the desk.
A wave of bitterness washed over him. It was like he could see his mother’s face and hear her voice, and the hatred he felt for Diane Bennett, Daniel Quinn, and Richard Bennett intensified.
“Uncle Lee, why don’t you go on and take care of your things? I’d like to have a moment alone.”
Victor said.
“Alright, Mr. Bennett. If you need anything, just let me know.”
Uncle Lee nodded, turned, and quietly closed the door behind him as he left the study.
Victor went straight to the bookcase and began to examine it closely. It was filled with books of all kinds, and nothing seemed out of the ordinary.
Following the clues Vivian Hayes had given him, he gently tapped on the wood, searching for the hidden compartment.

The tapping echoed sharply in the silent study, and Victor Bennett’s heart raced. He could feel the sweat gathering in his palms.
Suddenly, his knuckles landed on a section of the bookshelf that sounded distinctly different from the rest.
Victor’s heart leaped. He ran his fingers over the spot, discovering that the panel could be gently pushed. With a firm press, the wood slid back, revealing a dark, hidden compartment.
Inside the compartment rested a metal box, secured with a small padlock.
Victor picked up the box, a thrill coursing through him. He knew this had to be where the Classified Files were hidden.
As he was about to open it, he heard footsteps approaching outside, along with voices.
“The young master’s here?”
“Isn’t he supposed to be in Chicago with the Blade project? What’s he doing here?”
