The wail of an ambulance siren cut through the air above the hospital as a still unconscious Emma was rushed into the operating room.

The smell of antiseptic filled Mason’s nostrils, making him restless as he leaned against the wall.

“Mason!”

Hurried footsteps approached from down the hall as Robert and Patricia Anderson, having received the news, rushed into the hospital.

“How is Emma? What about the baby? What did the doctors say?”

Patricia grabbed Mason’s arm, her voice trembling, her eyes filled with worry.

More than the baby, she wanted to gauge Mason’s reaction.

“I heard that Clara pushed her at the conference. Did the two of them have some kind of argument?”
