Caelan's voice was sharp, cutting through her words. "Was I talking to you? Who do you think you are?"
Sienna had never expected Caelan to be so ruthless. She bit her lip hard, her eyes growing red as she played the victim. "Mr. Roche, I just really love that necklace..."
"Love it?" Caelan chuckled, the mockery in his tone undiminished. "What a pity Mr. Watkins is a step too late. Ms. Sandoval has already purchased this necklace."
Leilani was momentarily stunned. A second later, she smiled and waved the box in her hand at Sienna.
Sienna bit her lip in frustration, her fingers tightly clutching the hem of her dress.
Caelan slipped his hands into his coat pockets. With a cold demeanor, he left them with a cryptic remark. "Getting something isn't the impressive part. Keeping it is."
With that, his bodyguards cleared the path. Caelan walked away with long strides, not giving them a second glance.
Preston had always heard that the new head of the Roche family was arrogant, aloof, and looked down on everyone. Seeing him today, the rumors were clearly true.
Preston closed his eyes and took a deep breath, trying to ease the frustration of being repeatedly humiliated by Caelan.
Sienna turned to Leilani. "Leilani, could you give me the necklace?"
Leilani let out a cold laugh. "Do you have no shame at all?"
Preston sounded exasperated. "Leila, is there really a need to be so harsh?"
Leilani tilted her head, a smile resting on her lips but never reaching her eyes. "Do you want me to give it to her, too?"
Preston looked down at her, his voice softening. "Leila, in the two years we've been married, I've bought you hundreds of gifts. Every single one of them was more valuable than this necklace. It's impolite to deny someone what they truly love. Since Sienna wants it so badly, just give it to her. Do it for me."
Leilani slowly raised her eyes and looked at him. It was like she was looking at a complete stranger.
Her eyes, once brimming with love for him, were now nothing but bloodshot and filled with dead, cold ashes.
"Preston, when you were fourteen and had a severe case of pneumonia, we had no money for the medical bills. Grandma pawned her only thing to pay for it. This is that necklace. Sienna doesn't even deserve to look at it."
Leilani didn't spare him another glance. She turned around. Her back was completely straight as she walked away, her steady footsteps echoing down the hall until she disappeared.
Preston stood frozen in place. A forgotten corner of his memory was suddenly ripped open, exposing the raw truth.
Sienna hadn't seen Preston this quiet in a long time. She gently tugged on his arm. "Preston, are you okay?"
