We Are Officially Divorced novel Chapter 18

Chapter 18

It took Amelia only ten minutes to compare the information she had gathered and retrieve all the necessary documents.

After checking everything and making sure there were no mistakes, she walked out with the document bag. When she saw Julian slumped at the doorway, she narrowed her eyes.

What kind of act was he putting on this time?

Could he be pretending to be sick just to delay the divorce date?

As she walked up to him, Amelia was highly alert, and her tone was full of suspicion.

“Are you feeling unwell?”

This question was not out of concern, but rather doubt.

Julian could naturally tell the difference.

He shook his head, propped himself up against the door, and managed to force a smile.

“I’m fine, let’s go.”

Seeing him push open the door, Amelia finally let down her guard a little and followed after him.

On the way back to the courthouse, neither of them spoke again.

Amelia kept checking her watch to estimate the time. In her rush, she even took his hand as soon as they got out of the car and hurried upstairs.

Julian remembered that on their wedding day, she was just as impatient-probably afraid he would change his mind.

He hadn’t been in a good mood back then, but seeing how anxious she was, he couldn’t help but laugh, and his fear of marriage lessened a little.

Who would have thought that three years later, they would step into this place again, but this time for a divorce?

Looking at the crowds of couples around them, all there to get divorced, he suddenly felt that divorce wasn’t such a big deal after all.

Since Amelia said their marriage was a mistake, then let it end.

Only by stopping the mistake here would he have a chance to start over.

He would not let marriage become a shackle on her freedom. Once divorced, he would return to her side in a different role.

This time, it would be his turn to start from scratch and prove his feelings to her.

Although he didn’t know if she would give him a chance the way he had given her, Julian no longer felt lost.

He was willing to spend ten years, or even the rest of his life, chasing after her.

Not for anything else, but for the promise he made when they got married.

He had decided to walk through life hand in hand with her, and he would never go back on that.

They finished the paperwork right at five o’clock, just as the workday ended.

Looking at the brand-new red divorce certificate, Amelia felt a huge sense of relief. Even Julian seemed a little more pleasing to her eyes now.

She flexed her wrist, her tone light and cheerful.

“Alright, thank you for taking care of me these past few years. We’re even now. Bye!”

As soon as she finished speaking, she was about to leave, but he grabbed her wrist.

“Who said we’re even?”

Amelia glanced at the divorce certificate in her hand, then at his expression, deeply doubting the confidence he showed at this moment.

“The law has already declared us divorced. How are we not even?”

“Yes, legally we’re no longer husband and wife. But the fact that we were once classmates doesn’t change.”

“Then let me remind you, we weren’t exactly close back in school, and there wasn’t much of a friendship worth continuing.”

Julian didn’t deny this.

“That’s right, I wasn’t very warm to you back then. But who told you to keep pestering me?”

It was the first time Amelia had ever heard him bring up how she used to chase after him, and at such an awkward moment-right after their divorce. Her expression grew uneasy.

“That was a long time ago. Is there any point in bringing it up now?”

“You’re right, it’s not very meaningful. So let’s talk about something more recent.”

Something recent? What could it be?

Amelia had no idea what he was getting at. Just as she was about to ask, Julian spoke calmly.

“Didn’t you say that after the divorce, the past would be wiped clean, and you’d be willing to talk with me about anything I wanted?”
