We Are Officially Divorced novel Chapter 20

Chapter 20

After her hangover, Amelia slept straight through to the afternoon.

Stella had already gone to work. After a simple lunch, Amelia felt rather bored, so she grabbed her bag and went out, planning to check off a few items from the plans she had made a few days ago.

She picked up a fruit basket at the fruit shop downstairs, then took a taxi directly to the law firm to meet Lewis.

Over the past two months, Lewis had put a lot of effort into her divorce, upholding the law and ensuring her information security, acting as a go-between to relay many messages, and probably often advising Julian as well, which was why the divorce went so smoothly.

Lewis had done far more than a lawyer’s duty. Amelia always felt she had troubled him too much and felt a bit guilty, so she decided to thank him in person.

When he learned that the two of them had already received their divorce certificate, a look of regret appeared on Lewis’s face.

“Ms. Leighton, why did you keep it from me back then?”

Amelia truly felt sorry toward Lewis.

“Mr. Fitzroy, if you don’t mind, just call me Lia.”

“I didn’t really mean to keep it from you. It’s just, as you know, our marriage was a secret and not made public. I didn’t want to put you in a difficult position, so I didn’t tell you about it.”

Mentioning the secret marriage, Lewis could understand her, so he didn’t press the issue further.

“Yes, it’s all Jules’s fault. He shouldn’t have kept it from us. I heard you two were old classmates for years, and now you’ve divorced so hastily. I’m afraid the knot in your hearts hasn’t been untied, has it? Are you really not planning to keep in touch anymore?”

This question struck a chord with Amelia.

Before yesterday, she had planned to cut off all contact with Julian.

But seeing his attitude yesterday, she felt it would be hard to make a clean break.

1 288 Vouchers Not to mention their classmate relationship, just explaining the divorce to her parents was already giving her a headache.

Given her parents’ temperaments, they would probably have to confront Julian before letting it go, and she would have to explain things to him in advance.

It seemed that completely cutting ties would only be possible after everything was settled.

After figuring this out, Amelia wanted to sigh, but managed to hold it in.

“I was with him for three years. We never argued or fought, and the divorce went smoothly. We’re not resentful exes, but we can’t go back to the past either. As for the future, it’s hard to say- maybe we’ll stay in touch, or maybe we’ll just go our separate ways.”

Seeing that she hadn’t completely closed the door, Lewis felt a bit relieved.

For more than half a month, Julian had been driven nearly crazy trying to avoid the divorce.

After all, Julian was his protégé, and Lewis couldn’t help but worry that he might fall apart after the divorce.

But judging by the current situation, things hadn’t reached a dead end yet-there might still be room for change.

Lewis wasn’t entirely sure, but for the sake of Julian’s future, he still tried to say a few good words on his behalf.

After a few more polite exchanges, Amelia stood up to take her leave.

Lewis opened the door for her, but was startled by Julian’s sudden appearance, clutching his chest and patting it repeatedly.

“What are you doing lurking outside my office?”

Julian’s

gaze went past him, staring straight at Amelia inside.

Only then did Lewis realize what was happening. He quickly stepped aside to let Amelia out and hurriedly closed the door.

Amelia was also startled by him.

Before coming, she had specifically asked Lewis and knew Julian was off today, so she came at this time to avoid him.

Who would have thought he somehow got wind of it and showed up anyway.

She still had two more social gatherings to attend and didn’t want to get entangled with him here, so she simply and decisively asked him to step aside.

Julian took two steps to the side, and without any hesitation, she went straight downstairs.

As soon as she stepped outside, she realized it had started pouring at some point, and the water on the street was already knee-deep.

Staring at the empty street, Amelia was stunned.

She took out her phone to call a taxi, but after ten minutes, not a single car accepted her request.

And the rain was only getting heavier, showing no sign of stopping. The weather forecast said it wouldn’t let up until seven or eight in the evening.

Did this mean she would have to wait here for six hours?
