What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 103

Kaia swallowed the lump in her throat, forcing her voice to remain steady. "Josephine had Noelle confined to the family chapel for hours of forced reflection a few days ago as punishment. Finnian completely ignored his grandmother's fury and carried Noelle out of there himself. He holds all the cards in the Sanders Conglomerate right now. Even if Josephine tries to stop him, he couldn't care less."

Jane felt like the floor had dropped out from under her. If the matriarch of the family couldn't even put an end to this sick affair, who could?

"But Noelle married the eldest son! She was supposed to be in love with Rafael. Why is she suddenly throwing herself at Finnian?" Jane was still reeling, convinced there was a darker, uglier secret beneath it all.

Kaia stared blankly out the hospital window. Honestly, that was the one piece of the puzzle she couldn't quite figure out herself.

For six years, Kaia and Noelle had maintained a friendly, trusting relationship as sisters-in-law. Kaia had watched Noelle and Rafael up close; their love had seemed profound and unwavering. Rafael had worshipped the ground Noelle walked on. When Noelle said she was terrified of giving birth, Rafael spent seven years shielding her from the family's pressure to produce an heir, giving her complete freedom. There were even rumors that Rafael had secretly gotten a vasectomy, and the two of them simply raised a dog instead of having children.

When Noelle got sick, Rafael never left her side. Whatever she wanted, he delivered instantly. Kaia simply couldn't understand how a woman who supposedly loved her late husband so deeply could turn around the moment he died and scheme to steal her brother-in-law. The sheer twistedness of it was nauseating.

Jane sat in silence, trying to wrap her mind around it. Finally, she let out a cold, cynical laugh. "Then it's simple. She isn't just looking for love. She wants the Sanders family fortune and absolute control over the empire."

Kaia's head snapped up. Her mother's words hit her like a lightning bolt, illuminating the dark, confusing corners of the situation.

Noelle didn't just want Finnian's devotion. She wanted the crown.

"That woman’s ambition is terrifying," Jane sneered. "I never saw it in her before. Over the years, she came over to our house for dinner so many times. She was always so sweet, so friendly, and acted like she cared about you. How does a woman lose her husband and instantly pivot to shamelessly wrecking your life?" Jane was straightforward to a fault, and right now, she wanted nothing more than to scream at the top of her lungs.

Her daughter had finally married the man she loved, had a beautiful child, and built a stable life.

Whoever had the audacity to try and destroy that—Jane didn't care how powerful they were—she would make them pay.

"Kaia, listen to me. Do not act on impulse. Even if you divorce him, you make sure you take every single thing you are owed. You do not let that homewrecker get off easy." Jane knew her daughter's personality. Kaia didn't care about money or status; she only cared about her medical research and her career. Jane was terrified Kaia would just quietly step aside and hand the victory to Noelle.

Seeing her mother this furious on her behalf filled Kaia with a crushing wave of guilt.

"Mom, don't worry. The divorce is happening. But right now, Brynlee's health is the priority. I talked to Dr. Kendrick, and he said Brynlee's surgery has to wait until she's at least seven or eight years old." Kaia massaged her throbbing temples. She was completely trapped, and it was suffocating.
