What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 11

A faint, bitter smile ghosted across Kaia's lips. He had considered everyone's feelings, yet he had completely ignored hers.

Finnian stared at her straight back, his tone growing more serious. "I want you to go to Noelle and smooth things over. At the very least, maintain a necessary level of civility in public. Don't let the people at the company see us as a joke."

This sounded like the Finnian Kaia knew. He liked to handle everything his way.

As for anyone else's feelings, in his eyes, they were insignificant.

"I have no intention of smoothing things over with her," Kaia stood up, her tone flat and unwavering. "I'll do my part, but nothing more."

With that, she turned away from Finnian's instantly icy expression, calmly opened the door, and walked out.

She had just returned to her office when her mother's call came through.

Jane's gentle voice informed her, "This Saturday is your father's birthday. We're planning to have a couple of tables for friends and family. Make sure you, Finnian, and Brynlee come."

Hearing her mother's warm voice, Kaia felt a sudden lump in her throat.

"Okay, we'll be there," Kaia said, suppressing her emotions, not wanting her mother to hear anything was wrong.

"How is Noelle doing? Is she okay? She and Rafael were always so close. It must be devastating to suddenly lose the man she loved. You two have always been close; you should check on her when you can," Jane said, offering some words of concern as an elder.

A heavy tightness constricted Kaia's chest, making it hard to draw a full breath.

"Mom, I'm a bit busy here. I have to go. I'll bring Brynlee over early on Saturday," Kaia said softly.

"Alright."

Jane didn't want to disturb her daughter's work.

Kaia glanced at her computer. In five minutes, there was a review committee meeting for "Project Stargazer Phase III." Kaia gathered a few important data sheets and walked with a steady pace toward Conference Room One.

"Kaia!" A soft, gentle voice called from behind her.
