What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 121

Kaia paused, digging into her pocket for a moment. Finally, she opened her handbag, found a business card, and handed it over.

Simon Quinn's eyes held a hint of a smile as he took it. "Anna, say goodbye to Kaia. See you another time."

Anna Quinn immediately waved her little hand. "Bye, Kaia. Bye, Brynlee."

"Bye, Mr. Quinn! Bye, Anna!" Brynlee Sanders waved happily.

Kaia put the card back in her bag and took Brynlee to greet her teacher.

At noon, Kaia had originally planned to take Brynlee to her parents' place for lunch, but the little girl seemed very worried about the sick person at home and insisted on checking on him first.

Kaia couldn't say no to her, so she drove them back.

As the car pulled into the driveway of Oakhaven Estates, Kaia saw a white Bentley parked in what was usually her parking spot. It was Noelle Lawrence's car.

Kaia's eyes turned cold. By the time she parked, Brynlee had already pushed the door open and hopped out.

Stepping into the entryway, Kaia saw a pair of elegant heels sitting there, just as she expected.

Layla came over and lowered her voice. "Ma'am, you're back. Ms. Lawrence is here."

"Got it," Kaia nodded. She helped Brynlee take off her shoes and said, "Go wash your hands. It's almost time for lunch."

Brynlee quickly washed her hands and ran upstairs.

She searched a few rooms before finding the study door open. A woman's voice was coming from inside.

Without a second thought, Brynlee rushed right in.

Inside, Finnian Sanders was half-lying on the sofa, covered with a thin blanket. His handsome face was a bit pale from his illness. His eyes were closed as he quietly listened to Noelle read from a book next to him.

"Dad..." Brynlee shouted.

Finnian's eyes snapped open. A second later, a little figure threw herself into his arms.

Noelle frowned in annoyance at the sudden interruption of the peaceful atmosphere she had so carefully curated.

She had originally intended for Kaia to walk in on this scene.

"Brynlee, Dad has a cold. Don't get too close," Finnian said. As much as he wanted to hold his daughter, he knew her immune system was weak and was terrified of her getting sick again.

Brynlee stepped back a few paces and looked at Noelle. "Why are you here, Aunt Noelle?"

Noelle offered a gentle smile. "I heard your dad was sick, so I came to visit."

"Oh, were you reading to Dad just now? Is it a story?" Brynlee asked curiously.

Interrupted, Brynlee instantly forgot what she was going to say and nodded her little head. "Okay, Mom."

Kaia stood up and took Brynlee's hand to walk out. Finnian's voice came from behind them: "Noelle is here. She's having lunch with us."

Kaia ignored him, leading her daughter downstairs.

However, just as she reached the first floor, Noelle pretended to finish a phone call and walked over with a bright smile. "Kaia, something came up at work. I won't be staying for lunch. I've got to head to the office."

"Brynlee, I'll come play with you next time," Noelle said, maintaining her smile as she turned and left.

By the time Finnian pulled himself together and came downstairs, he saw only Kaia and Brynlee sitting at the dining table.

Finnian looked at Layla. "Why did Noelle leave?"

Layla looked surprised. "She said she was staying for lunch just a minute ago. Did she leave? I had no idea."

Finnian shot Kaia a look, then said to Layla, "Prepare a plate and bring it up to my study."

With that, Finnian turned and went back upstairs, his face visibly darker than before.

Kaia peacefully enjoyed lunch with her daughter. In the afternoon, she dropped Brynlee off at her parents' place while she headed to the Holistic Wellness Center for a half-day shift. She planned to head back to her mother's for dinner later that evening.

As her child officially started the new school term, Kaia fully shifted her focus back to her career.
