What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 137

Then, Silas looked at the man who made the joke. "Your friend has quite a sense of humor, Finnian."

The smile on Noelle's face faded slightly, and she instinctively glanced at Finnian's reaction.

Suppressing his fury, Finnian shot his loudmouth friend a terrifying glare. "You all go ahead. We won't interrupt," he said coldly.

Kaia, Silas, and their group turned and headed in a different direction. Finnian stood rooted to the spot, watching them walk away. Silas was still talking to Kaia—perhaps about the joke that was just made—and then he let out another charming, unrestrained laugh.

"Finnian!" Noelle gently touched his arm. "Don't take it to heart. It was just a stupid joke."

Finnian nodded, then turned to his friend, who was now so terrified he had sobered up instantly. "Next time you make a joke, try using your brain."

The man flinched and hurriedly apologized, "I'm so sorry, Finnian. Look at me, what an idiot. Seriously, I left my brain at home today."

After parting ways with Finnian's group, Kaia and Silas played a few holes with Mr. Wells and Dr. Lyons before deciding to grab some drinks back at the clubhouse lounge.

Mr. Wells and Dr. Lyons had an impromptu video call to take, so they asked Silas and Kaia to wait for about half an hour.

Silas walked over with a glass of juice for Kaia. "There's a practice green over there. Want to try your hand at chipping?"

Kaia had taken a few swings earlier that were embarrassingly bad. Seeing an opportunity to practice, she nodded. "Sure, I really should practice a bit."

Silas naturally picked up her golf bag. "Let's go."

The practice green was located directly below the second-floor lounge balcony. The grass was lush and perfectly manicured.

Kaia took off her jacket, leaving on her white polo shirt. She put on her glove, took the wedge from Silas, and tried hitting chips from different distances.

But her distance control and ball placement were still terrible. She frowned slightly, secretly thinking she had absolutely zero athletic talent.

Right then, Silas noticed her struggle and walked over. "Backing down already?"

Kaia offered a self-deprecating smile. "I'm just really bad at this."

Silas stepped right up, standing just half a step behind her right shoulder. "I'll teach you."

"But I have to say, with Silas teaching her, she's picking it up fast. Look, she's doing great now. A true overachiever, she learns everything so quickly."

Noelle's seemingly innocent comments made Finnian's expression darken even further.

"Before, she was probably too distracted by the kid. Now, she's learning it for her business negotiations. It's a useful skill to have," Finnian said coldly. He downed the rest of his ice water in one gulp, slammed the glass onto the table, and walked out of the lounge without looking back.

Noelle stared coldly at the scene below, a smirk playing on her lips.

Oh, Kaia... where is your heart wandering off to now?

That night, inside the mansion's study.

The dim lighting cast a long, imposing shadow of the man standing by the floor-to-ceiling window.

The glow of the computer monitor on his desk faded to black, but his gaze remained fixed on the empty darkness outside.

A few minutes later, he went downstairs, dropped an ice sphere into a glass, poured some liquor, downed it, and headed back upstairs.
