What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 138

The lights in the master bedroom were already off. There wasn't a sound from the baby monitor, which meant Brynlee was fast asleep.

Finnian pressed his lips into a tight line, pushed the door open, and stepped into his guest bedroom.

While Kaia was in the shower, she had received a text from Silas.

She hadn't checked it immediately because Brynlee always got a little fussy right before bed. It wasn't until her daughter was sound asleep that Kaia leaned back against the pillows and tapped on the video file.

It was labeled with the number four.

Kaia's heart gave two uncontrollable, heavy thuds.

She put in her earbuds and hit play.

The footage was slightly shaky, and the color saturation had a vintage feel to it.

On a vibrant green lawn, a group of teenagers were hanging out.

The camera adjusted, zooming in on a young girl in a blue tennis skirt not far away. Her hair was pulled into a high ponytail, showing off a flawless forehead and a graceful neckline.

The person filming walked toward her, getting close enough to see the sweat dampening Noelle's bangs. Her face still had that soft, youthful roundness as she laughed, her cheeks flushing with a mix of embarrassment and frustration. "Stop filming me! I'm so terrible at this, go film someone else!"

Just then, a gentle young man's voice came from off-camera. "Noelle, your angle is all wrong."

The person holding the camera backed up. Suddenly, a tall, lean figure stepped into the frame. It was a young Finnian.

He walked right up, standing slightly behind Noelle's right shoulder. His deep voice was filled with absolute patience. "Drop your wrists a bit more. Yeah, exactly. Lean your weight forward..."

The camera shifted again, providing a clear view of Finnian.

He was wearing a black athletic T-shirt and casual pants. He stood tall, his handsome face looking even more striking in its youth, and he wore an expression of relaxed tenderness that Kaia had never seen before.

Noelle tried her best, but her swing was still awful.

Finnian showed her again and again. Finally, he practically wrapped his arms around her from behind, leaning down to whisper the instructions directly into her ear. His sharp jawline was mere inches from brushing against it.

Noelle tilted her head to listen, looking intensely focused. Her face was flushed red, and so were her ears.

Whether it was from the heat of the exercise or something else entirely was impossible to tell.

"Finnian, I'm just too clumsy! Are you going to give up on me?" Noelle swung and missed terribly again. She dropped the club and crouched on the grass, laughing at herself.
