What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 143

The little girl suddenly realized she hadn't shared her exciting news with her dad yet.

The noise of the hairdryer masked the slight pause in Finnian's hands. He smiled, his voice perfectly steady. "Oh? Where did you eat?"

"I ate at Anna's house! Her uncle invited Mom and me. Mr. Quinn even gave me a little gift. It's from his collection!"

"Mr. Quinn?" Finnian's tone sounded like a casual clarification, and then he switched off the hairdryer.

"Yeah, Mr. Quinn! He and Mom have known each other for a really, really long time."

Finnian's grip on the hairbrush tightened. A dark emotion flickered across his face.

"I see. As long as you had a good time, sweetheart," Finnian murmured softly.

Later, Finnian lay on his side in bed, gently patting his daughter's arm until her breathing evened out.

He didn't leave the master bedroom right away. His eyes stayed fixed on the curtains swaying in the breeze, his gaze turbulent and unreadable.

Kaia finally finished her work and returned to the master bedroom. The moment she walked in, she locked eyes with the man lying on the bed.

She paused for only two seconds before walking straight into the walk-in closet to find her pajamas.

Finnian slowly sat up, slipping his hands into the pockets of his robe, and leaned against the closet doorframe. "Brynlee told me your dinner party tonight was very pleasant."

Kaia didn't turn around.

Finnian nodded, as if accepting her silence as confirmation. "Have you and Simon Quinn known each other for a long time?"

Kaia hadn't expected him to interrogate her about this. She threw a glance over her shoulder. "Sorry, I'm a bit tired tonight."

Finnian stared at her in silence for two heavy seconds. Then he took a step back, turned around, and walked out of the master bedroom.

A few minutes later, a sleek black Maybach turned the corner and approached.

Brynlee's dark eyes lit up. "Dad, it's Mr. Quinn's car! Anna's here!"

Finnian's eyes locked onto the Maybach. He watched as the car stopped and Simon Quinn stepped out.

Dressed in impeccable business attire, tall and broad-shouldered, Simon radiated the polished elegance of corporate elite.

As Brynlee scrambled to get out, Finnian quickly opened his door and stepped onto the curb. He leaned down to help his daughter adjust her backpack, then crouched in front of her to straighten the collar of her school uniform.

"Anna!" Brynlee called out joyfully.

Anna hadn't noticed them at first and was heading toward the gates, but she turned at the sound of her name. Simon turned with her.
