What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 142

Kaia couldn't really say no at this point. She smiled. "Alright. I'll come over and take a look at Old Mrs. Quinn's leg. Mrs. Quinn brought her into my clinic about six months ago, but she hasn't been back for a follow-up."

A flash of joy crossed Simon's eyes. "Then I'll let Anna ride in your car."

Before Kaia could process it, Simon had grabbed Anna's little backpack and essentially left the girl in her care.

"Anna, I'm so happy! We finally get to play together!" Brynlee hugged little Anna, practically vibrating with excitement.

"Me too!" Anna hugged Brynlee back, and the two jumped up and down.

Simon glanced back over his shoulder, noticing Kaia's helpless but amused expression as she dealt with the two adorable kids.

Kaia drove the girls through the gates of The Quinn Residence. The family had owned the property for generations, a sprawling, classic estate situated right in the city center. Once through the iron gates, the compound revealed seven or eight large homes, with the Quinn family's main house sitting right in the middle.

Outside the door was a private, beautifully landscaped garden. It lacked modern minimalism but made up for it with rich, timeless elegance, complete with clearly marked parking spaces.

Kaia opened the car door just as Simon walked over to gather the kids.

He had shed his suit jacket, now wearing a casual, high-end knit sweater that gave him an air of relaxed refinement.

"No running, watch the steps!" Simon didn't even have time to hold the door for Kaia; he had to jog after the two little girls who were already sprinting inside.

Kaia hurried out of the car and followed him.

Inside the living room, Mrs. Quinn was sitting on the sofa. Eleanor Quinn had also come downstairs to wait the moment she heard Kaia was visiting.

"Kaia, dear, it's been over six months," Eleanor greeted her with a warm, wrinkled smile.

Kaia immediately offered a polite greeting. "Old Mrs. Quinn, Mrs. Quinn."

Linda Quinn's eyes crinkled with warmth when she saw Kaia. "Kaia, it's so rare to have you here. I had the chef whip up a few of your favorite dishes."

"Thank you, Mrs. Quinn," Kaia said graciously, taking a seat next to Eleanor to ask about her condition.

Watching the scene unfold in the living room, Simon smiled. "I'll go upstairs and see what those two are up to."

Kaia chatted with Linda and Eleanor for about half an hour before heading upstairs herself. She wanted to keep an eye on Brynlee, knowing how mischievous her daughter could be.

She found Simon leaning against the doorframe, arms crossed, watching the two little girls play dress-up in the bedroom.

Seeing Kaia approach, Simon immediately pushed open the adjacent door leading to the balcony. "Come sit out here for a bit."
