What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 16

"Great!" Miles nodded with a smile, handing the flowers to Jane. "These are for you, Jane."

Jane accepted them happily. "How thoughtful of you."

Kaia took them from her, thanked him, and went to find a vase for the flowers.

Miles's gaze swept over Kaia's figure. Her light makeup couldn't hide the trace of exhaustion on her beautiful face. Her natural, cool temperament seemed to suit the role of Mrs. Sanders more and more.

Miles discreetly withdrew his gaze and took a sip of tea.

Warren returned with Brynlee, and the small courtyard became even livelier as more relatives and friends arrived. They filled three tables, creating a bustling, festive atmosphere.

Kaia sat with her daughter beside Finnian. While chatting with others, Finnian naturally peeled a shrimp and fed it to his picky daughter.

To outsiders, they appeared to be a very happy couple. Some of the women present envied Kaia for marrying into such a prestigious family and being so respected and cared for by her husband.

The only imperfection was that their daughter was rumored to have a congenital heart condition.

Miles had a couple of extra drinks today. With his heavy workload at the hospital, he left right after the meal. Before he went, he came over to Kaia. "Brynlee has a check-up on Wednesday. Don't forget. A specialist from abroad is visiting for a charity clinic, and I've asked him to take a look at Brynlee's case."

Kaia immediately stood up, full of gratitude. "Thank you so much, Miles. I'll bring Brynlee over first thing Wednesday morning."

"Good."

With that, Miles turned to Finnian. "Finnian, I'm heading out."

Finnian nodded.

At two in the afternoon, Finnian also left. Before he went, he gave Jane a bank card, saying it was a small gift for her father.

Jane took the card but worried her husband would get angry. So, she called Kaia into the bedroom.

"Take this card back with you. You know your father's temperament. He's never been willing to take a dime from the Sanders family."

Kaia frowned. Finnian had always been generous with money.
