What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 183

Noelle acted utterly paralyzed by the revelation. She slowly lowered her hands from her face, staring blankly at Heather.

Seeing her looking so utterly lost, with sorrow and regret written all over her face, Heather's heart ached for her. "Noelle, right now is the perfect opportunity for you two to reconnect. Mr. Sanders is gravitating toward you. Are you really going to let him slip away again?"

"Stop, please." Noelle shook her head, tears rolling down her cheeks as if the weight of those words was too much to bear. She pleaded, "Heather, please don't say another word."

Watching the usually strong and proud Noelle cry like this made Heather realize just how heavy her words were.

"Noelle, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to bring up painful memories. I'm just so anxious," Heather murmured in anguish. "I don't want to miss out on my happiness either. But how do I get him to notice me? As long as Kaia is in the picture, do I even have a chance?"

Noelle looked at Heather, who was now covering her own face and crying. She genuinely looked heartbroken.

"Why is Kaia standing in the way of both our happiness? Did we owe her something in a past life?" Noelle sighed softly. "Heather, stop crying. We need to be strong. There's nothing wrong with fighting for the man you love. The problem is that the woman standing in our way has absolutely zero self-awareness."

Hearing Noelle finally take a clear stance, Heather paused and nodded. "Exactly. Kaia stole both our chances at happiness, yet she struts around acting so high and mighty. She's the one who's completely shameless."

Hearing her friend say the very words she had been too afraid to voice herself, Noelle sneered internally.

"Alright, well, now I know how you feel. I'll help you," Noelle said, grabbing a tissue to wipe the tears from Heather's eyes. "Miles is an incredibly rare find. He's going to make a fantastic husband one day. A man like that, once he gets married, he's permanently off the market. It's totally normal for you to be anxious."

"Exactly," Heather nodded. "Good men don't stay single forever. That's why I want to marry him. I want to spend the rest of my life with him."

Noelle hummed in agreement. "Well, you're going to have to step up your game. Kaia... I know her better than you do. She gives off this vibe that still waters run deep, like she's aloof and above it all. But honestly, the games she plays are way beyond what either of us can see through."

Just the mention of Kaia made Heather furious. She let out a heavy scoff. "I just think she's keeping Dr. Kendrick on the hook as her backup plan. She even chose him as her daughter's primary doctor. Out of all the specialists available, she specifically picked him. Isn't it obvious? She wants her daughter to bond with him so they can easily become a family later."

Noelle couldn't help but laugh at that. "Is that really what you think?"

"How can I not overthink it? Ugh, I've been so emotionally drained lately just stressing over this. I'm terrified I'm going to wake up one day to horrible news. Noelle, you and Mr. Sanders are definitely going to end up together. Could you just secretly keep an ear to the ground for me?" Heather looked at Noelle with pleading eyes.

"Yeah, I will," Noelle replied, her expression the picture of sincerity.

"Then I'll just be waiting for my invitation to your and Mr. Sanders's wedding," Heather said, though deep down, she was burning with envy. Noelle had the two most eligible Sanders men wrapped around her finger effortlessly. Why was it so hard for her, when she wasn't even being greedy and only wanted Miles? God was so unfair.

"Who can say what will happen with love?" Noelle smiled bitterly.

"Don't let him slip away again." Heather's words were soft, but they landed like a stone in a tranquil lake, sending ripples through Noelle's mind.

Noelle sat in silence for a long time, her eyes fixed on her tea.

Everything Heather said tonight felt like a key, unlocking a door Noelle had kept tightly shut deep inside her heart.
