What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 191

Miles noticed Kaia's expression and lowered his voice. "Looks like a coincidence today. Finnian and Noelle are here too. Do you want to go over and say hi?"

Kaia was just about to decline, but Noelle had already looked their way, clearly registering a fleeting moment of surprise.

Then, she softly said something to Finnian, and he looked over as well.

Miles gave Kaia a helpless smile. "Looks like there's no avoiding it. Come on, let's go say hello."

Before Kaia could protest, Miles was already walking over. She had no choice but to compose her features and follow him.

"Finnian, Noelle, what a coincidence," Miles said with a warm smile as he approached.

Finnian's gaze landed on Kaia. He stood up, his tone perfectly measured. "What brings you two here for dinner?"

"We're discussing business," Kaia replied coolly.

Miles quickly elaborated, "Yes, it's about the joint equipment procurement. We needed to hash out some details."

Kaia suddenly reached out and tugged lightly on Miles's sleeve. "Miles, let's grab a table over there."

Miles paused, his eyes dropping to the fingers pulling at his sleeve. He then looked back at Finnian. "Well, Kaia and I won't interrupt you two any longer. We'll head over there to talk."

But right at that moment, Finnian spoke up. "Why not join us? I'd like to hear about it too."

As the CEO of the conglomerate, Finnian's request was entirely reasonable.

Miles looked at Kaia, trying to gauge her reaction.

Kaia didn't seem to have a counterargument.

"Of course. Kaia, what do you think?" Miles asked.

Kaia glanced at Finnian. "Mr. Sanders is the ultimate decision-maker. It's only right that he listens in."

Hearing her formal address, Finnian gave her a deeply calculating look.

Noelle offered a gentle smile. "Oh, well, as the head of Aethelstan, I hope you don't mind if I sit in on such an important collaborative project."

Finnian lowered his voice. "You're part of the Sanders family. There's no harm in you listening."

The four of them took their seats, though the arrangement had subtly shifted. What was originally an intimate booth for two was now a square table for four. When Finnian sat down, Noelle—whether intentionally or not—took the seat right next to him. Kaia and Miles sat on the opposite side.

A waiter quickly hurried over to add extra utensils and pour more water.

The four of them dove into a highly technical discussion regarding the medical equipment.

When the conversation shifted to specific, targeted requirements, Miles and Kaia fell into a deep, detailed rhythm. Finnian was instantly shut out of the loop, and Noelle could only struggle to keep up with the jargon.

As Kaia articulated her core arguments, she could feel Finnian staring at her unblinkingly. But the moment she turned her head to meet his eyes, he looked down.

Caught off guard, Kaia gasped, her back slamming solidly against Miles's chest.

"Watch where you're going!" Finnian barked furiously.

The kid on the scooter practically jumped out of his skin. Sobering up instantly, he scrambled away in a panic.

When Finnian whipped his head back around, he saw Miles still gripping Kaia's arm. Kaia was still reeling from the shock, frozen with her back pressed against Miles's embrace.

Miles was the first to realize how it looked. He quickly let go and asked softly, "Are you okay?"

"Thank you," Kaia said, exhaling shakily. "That was really close."

Finnian finally spoke, his eyes locked on Kaia. "Let's go home. Miles, get some rest."

"Yeah." Miles nodded, watching as the married couple got into the Mercedes.

On the drive back, Finnian was quieter than he had ever been. In fact, the moment he got into the passenger seat, he closed his eyes and pretended to rest.

Kaia naturally had nothing to say to him either, keeping her focus entirely on the road.

This partnership with Prestige Medical Center was considered a flagship project for Veridian Future this year. Both Kaia and Silas Sanders took it extremely seriously. For the equipment procurement, the Prestige team had requested that they all go to Germany together to make the selections.

The trip was scheduled for mid-April, and both Kaia and Silas had committed to going.
