What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 225

Hearing Finnian's intervention, Kaia turned to Elaine and said, "Mom, we'll be leaving now. I hope you all enjoy the rest of your trip."

Elaine's eyes grew several degrees colder at Kaia's words, but given her son's stance, she couldn't forcefully demand they stay.

Finnian's sharp brows knitted together. When Kaia threw that divorce agreement at him, had she completely discarded all sense of dignity?

"That was entirely out of line," Elaine snapped angrily, glaring in the direction the Chavez family had vanished.

Noelle quickly reached out and looped her arm through Elaine's. "Mom, don't be angry. Kaia was so forceful about taking Brynlee, there must be a reason for it."

Elaine's indignation refused to fade. "Look at how she behaves now. Does she have even an ounce of respect left as a wife or a daughter-in-law? We were having a wonderful time playing with the child, and she suddenly shows up and snatches her away."

The word 'snatches' made Finnian's face tighten.

"Mom, it's not that serious. Don't overthink it. Brynlee has been wanting Kaia to come keep her company this whole time," Finnian reasoned, his voice raspy.

"I'm not overthinking it. It's the truth!" Elaine glared at Finnian, still fuming. "Finnian, let me make this clear right now. If you two ever get divorced, the child stays with the Sanders family. She is not taking her."

Finnian's breath hitched. Noelle's eyes darted around, involuntarily glancing at the tall man beside her.

She had finally heard the word 'divorce' spoken aloud in the Sanders household.

"Mom, for Brynlee's sake, Kaia and I won't get divorced. Stop making a mountain out of a molehill. Brynlee's physical and mental well-being is our top priority." Finnian felt an inexplicable surge of irritation. He shut down the conversation and turned toward the stairs leading to his second-floor bedroom.

As the sky darkened, the sound of crashing waves echoed in the distance, carrying a salty, damp breeze.

Elaine had been furious with Kaia, and now she felt stifled by her son's dismissal.

"Mom, don't think about it too much. Let's go inside and have a cup of tea." Noelle, who had stayed silent during their exchange, appeared quiet and obedient.

Elaine suddenly realized Noelle was still standing beside her. As the acknowledged daughter-figure of the Sanders family, Noelle had always been sensible, never intentionally stoking conflicts within the household.

"Noelle, you saw it just now. Kaia has zero respect for me as her mother-in-law, and Finnian refuses to rein her in," Elaine grumbled.

Noelle supported her arm as they walked into the living room. She sat down, brewed a cup of light tea, and gently placed it in front of Elaine.
