"That sounds great! What a fantastic idea." Jane agreed immediately. "I'll go upstairs and ask your father. Sitting at home reading all day isn't doing him any good anyway. We're getting older, we should travel while we still can."
Kaia was stunned, not expecting her mother to agree so readily.
Her eyes were slightly red. In truth, she was only suggesting the trip out of concern for her daughter.
Warren Chavez gave nearly the exact same response as Jane. The three of them quickly packed two suitcases and booked their flights.
Kaia sent her flight details to Brynlee, telling her that she and her grandparents had also decided to take a trip abroad and would come find her. On the other end of the line, Brynlee literally jumped for joy.
It was a long flight.
They finally arrived at a vacation villa in Bali. Kaia didn't bother wasting words with Finnian, directly asking for his address and bringing her parents straight there.
Finnian gave her the address without hesitation, even thoughtfully asking if they needed him to send a private car to pick them up, an offer Kaia flatly declined.
They arrived just at dusk, the lingering warmth of the sun still hanging in the air.
Outside the villa's private pool stretched a clear, azure ocean shimmering with light, radiating the lazy ambiance of a tropical vacation.
When Kaia and her parents arrived at the villa, they were met with a striking scene.
In the crystal-clear pool, Noelle wore a beige, cut-out bikini, proudly displaying her stunning curves. Bathed in the twilight, she swam gracefully through the water like a mermaid.
By the edge of the pool, Finnian, shirtless and wearing dark swim trunks, was playing in the shallows with Brynlee.
Brynlee wore a little blue swimsuit and a cartoon floatie, splashing around happily with her father's patient encouragement, absolutely thrilled.
In a lounge chair nearby, Elaine was leisurely sipping a coffee, a warm, affectionate smile on her face as she watched her son and granddaughter.
Standing at the entrance, Kaia's grip on her suitcase handle tightened instantly.
Jane and Warren also stopped in their tracks, their expressions indescribable as they took in the sight.
"This..." Jane's voice faltered in shock, entirely unsure of what to say.
Warren's weathered face immediately darkened.
Just then, Elaine walked over and said sharply, "Kaia, did you bring your parents here for a vacation, or did you just come to take Brynlee away?"
Jane looked at Elaine and replied politely, "It's boring when it's just us adults. Having Brynlee around makes it much more fun."
Warren didn't even bother engaging with Elaine. He looked directly at Finnian. "You're not going to stop us, are you?"
Finnian paused for a moment before offering a mild smile. "Dad, Brynlee wanted to get out and explore anyway. It is a bit boring just sitting around here. If you can take her out to have fun, she'll be thrilled."
Elaine's face immediately darkened. "So, you came all this way specifically to take Brynlee away?"
Kaia nodded.
The usual warmth in Elaine's eyes vanished, replaced entirely by the irritation of being interrupted.
"If we were back home, I wouldn't mind you picking her up, but this is a Sanders family vacation. For you to suddenly show up and take the child away is inappropriate, don't you think?"
Seeing that a fight over the child was brewing, Finnian interjected sternly, "Let's not argue in front of Brynlee. Mom, let Kaia take her. She's better equipped to take care of her physical and emotional needs than we are."
