"You don't want to keep a backup?" Dexter was surprised. Was his boss just looking to satisfy his curiosity, rather than using it as leverage for the divorce?
"No need," Finnian said flatly, deleting the message from his phone as well.
Just then, Noelle walked in wearing a Bohemian style maxi dress, a brightly colored sun hat resting on her head. She looked every bit the picture of a perfect vacation.
"Finnian, Mom and I are going shopping. Do you want to come?" As Noelle entered, a subtle, sweet scent floated through the air, carrying the faint aroma of cherry blossoms.
Finnian replied coolly, "I'll pass. You two go ahead."
"Okay! If I see a gift that suits you, can I buy it for you?" Noelle looked at him with clear eyes and a genuine smile.
"Just buy whatever you two like. You don't need to get me anything." Finnian shook his head.
"Alright, we'll decide when we get there." With that, Noelle turned and left.
Once Noelle and Elaine's car pulled away from the villa, Finnian took out his phone and dialed Brynlee. However, she hadn't worn her smartwatch, so his only way to reach her was through Kaia.
Seeing Finnian calling, Kaia immediately handed the phone to Brynlee. She answered happily, "Dad! Did you miss me?"
"Where are you guys planning to play today?" Finnian asked with a warm smile.
"Mom said we're going to buy gifts for Grandpa and Grandma, and then we're going to check out a school. Dad, do you want to come?" Brynlee reported honestly.
"Sure, let me check my schedule. If I have time at noon, I'll take you all out to eat." Finnian didn't give a definitive answer.
"Okay! If you decide to come, just call me and Mom," Brynlee said in her sweet, childish voice.
"Alright. Be good for Grandpa and Grandma," Finnian instructed before Brynlee ended the call.
Around ten-thirty in the morning, Noelle and Elaine walked arm-in-arm out of a luxury jewelry boutique, carrying branded shopping bags. Noelle had changed into a new Chanel shirt dress. From head to toe, she exuded the effortless grace of someone entirely pampered by wealth.
"Mom, that menswear boutique over there is really popular right now. Let's go take a look," Noelle suggested with a smile.
Elaine paused. "Rafael is gone. Who would you be buying for?"
Noelle's smile faltered for a second before a flash of sorrow filled her eyes. "Mom, maybe it's because Rafael treated me so well, and I used to buy him gifts all the time. Whenever I walk past a menswear store like this, I get the sudden urge to go in and pick something out."
