What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 237

The word "resign" slipped from her lips with effortless ease.

Finnian felt the air violently knocked out of him.

That was the career she had poured her blood, sweat, and tears into building. She was just going to throw it all away?

Could she really be that ruthless?

"Fine," Finnian heard himself say. "I agree."

Kaia nodded. She pulled two printed sheets of paper from her bag. They detailed the exact four conditions she had just listed. Her signature was already on the bottom.

She slid the documents across the table. "If you have no objections, sign here. It's not legally binding, but it's a mutual promise."

Finnian stared at the papers, his pupils contracting sharply.

She had come prepared. Of course she had. She had anticipated this exact outcome.

He picked up the paper, his voice turning glacial. "I have one condition to add. Give me your pen."

Startled, Kaia handed over her fountain pen, a flicker of unease settling in her chest.

Finnian immediately began writing his terms at the bottom. Kaia was too far away to read his handwriting.

"What are you adding?" she asked anxiously. "Just to be clear, if it's completely unreasonable, I won't agree to it."

Finnian ignored her, his hand moving rapidly across the page.

When he finally finished, he signed both copies without giving her a chance to review them first.

Kaia pulled one sheet back and read the fifth clause he had added.

"A one-year trial period for reconciliation. If the relationship does not substantially improve within one year, both parties agree to an unconditional divorce and will expedite all legal procedures without interference. Neither party is permitted to remarry for three years."

Kaia stared at the addendum in shock, blinking hard.

Finnian leaned back in his chair, spinning the pen lightly between his fingers.

Outside the window, the bamboo leaves rustled in the wind, sounding like fragmented sighs.

Kaia bit her lip and let out a soft laugh. "Finnian, don't you think this is a bit redundant?"

"Do I?" Finnian's expression smoothed back into its usual unreadable calm. "I don't think so."

Kaia shoved the paper into her bag and stood up to leave.

Halfway to the door, she turned around and held out her hand. "Give me my pen back."
