What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 245

"Noelle... Mrs. Sanders," Pearl greeted with a tentative smile. She tugged at her daughter, Chloe, who was leaning against the corridor wall with a lollipop in her mouth.

"I'm not going in. You go ahead," Chloe retorted. "I'm not about to beg for attention from someone who thinks she's better than us."

Pearl swatted her daughter's arm but didn't force her.

"Pearl, what are you doing here?" Noelle's tone was polite but entirely detached, treating the woman like a distant stranger rather than her biological mother.

The use of her first name made Pearl freeze instantly.

"I gave her the address. She called me yesterday after seeing the news about your fall," Elaine stated flatly.

"Yes, Mrs. Sanders told me. Noelle, does your leg still hurt? I made some pork rib soup for you, thinking you might want something warm..." Pearl trailed off as she noticed the exquisite jade bowl on the bedside table, half-filled with expensive artisan broth. She suddenly didn't know what else to say.

Elaine frowned, clearly viewing Pearl's presence as entirely unnecessary.

"No thank you, I'm already full. My mom had our chef prepare plenty of amazing food for me." Noelle gracefully dabbed the corner of her mouth with a napkin, her voice cool.

Sensing the biological mother and daughter might need a moment, Elaine patted Noelle's hand. "Noelle, Pearl is just worried about you. Have a chat. I'll go speak with the doctor about your recovery plan."

With that, Elaine stood up. Pearl instinctively lowered her head in a posture of submissive respect as she passed.

Only the two of them remained in the room.

Looking at Noelle's injured leg, the unbreakable bond of blood brought tears to Pearl's eyes. "Noelle, be more careful next time. A fall like that must have hurt terribly."

"It doesn't hurt anymore." Noelle didn't even glance at her, her expression stony. "Pearl, you didn't need to make the trip. My family will take perfect care of me."

Pearl stood dumbfounded, her eyes reddening further.

"Noelle, I'm not here to bother you. I just wanted to see you. You're a piece of my own flesh, after all. I was in labor with you for a full day and night, nearly died doing it. They didn't even think you'd survive..."

"Pearl," Noelle interrupted, her voice devoid of any warmth. "I have a wonderful life now. The Sanders family treats me like their own flesh and blood. I lack for absolutely nothing. Just go live your own life and stop fixating on me."

At that exact moment, the door was shoved open forcefully from the outside.

Chloe stormed right up to the bed, pointing a finger directly at Noelle. "Are you even human? She is your actual mother, and you talk to her like she's trash. Are you trying to give her a heart attack?"

"Chloe, keep your voice down. Stop it," Pearl panicked, knowing her daughter was a volatile brat, but speaking to Noelle this way was a terrible idea.
