What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 251

"Noelle is already frail. She took a bad fall, and now she's back in the emergency room. What will it take for you to finally let her go?" Finnian Sanders slammed his fist onto Kaia Chavez's desk. The deafening crash made Kaia's ears ring.

"What exactly do you want, Finnian?" Kaia stood up, her temper flaring as she met his furious glare. "If you care about her that much, go stay by her hospital bed. Why come here to throw a tantrum? Does this have anything to do with me?"

Finnian hadn't expected Kaia to play innocent so flawlessly. How was it not her fault? If it weren't for her, his grandmother would never have flown into such a rage and forced Noelle to read that statement.

He took a menacing step forward, staring down at her. "Why did Grandmother suddenly demand this press conference? Why did Noelle have to read that humiliating clarification in front of the media? Are you really going to stand there and pretend you don't know?"

Kaia's expression didn't waver. Facing his aggressive gaze, she refused to back down an inch. "Are you accusing me?"

"Who else could it be?" Finnian's voice was tight with suppressed fury. "In the Sanders family, you're the only one Grandmother listens to. You've always been her favorite."

His chest heaved with heavy breaths.

Kaia looked at the man standing before her, crusading for Noelle Lawrence, and suddenly felt like she was looking at a stranger.

She had looked at this face for seven years. She had seen him radiant with success, exhausted from overwork, and red-eyed when their daughter was sick. Now, she was seeing him trembling with rage—all for the sake of another woman.

"Finnian," she said, letting out a cold, cynical laugh. "Did you come here to ask me a question, or did you come specifically to berate me?"

Finnian froze, nailed to the spot as his tense nerves sobered slightly.

Kaia looked at him with profound disappointment. "If you're here to ask, I'll tell you right now: I had no idea about this. But if you came here to scream at me, by all means, keep going."

Her heart had completely iced over. She no longer cared what this man said. She had actively built a wall around herself, shutting out his dramatic love and hate for the other woman.

When Finnian met her bitterly disappointed eyes, his whole body stiffened. He took a deep breath, his voice dropping several decibels. "Kaia, can you please just let her be? Stop being so cold-blooded. She came to the Sanders family when she was nine after losing her parents. Every step she's taken hasn't been easy. She's not like you—you have a warm, loving family to fall back on. She's like a frightened rabbit, all alone..."

"Enough. I don't want to hear this. Save that speech for Noelle so she knows just how much her pain tears you apart," Kaia cut him off sharply.

"Stop driving her into a corner, okay?" Finnian's breathing grew heavy.

Driving her into a corner?

Hearing those words, Kaia actually laughed.
