What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 260

To outsiders, the caption might seem vague, but Kaia would undoubtedly grasp the hidden meaning.

The lunchbox bore the unmistakable crest of the Sanders estate kitchen. Kaia would know exactly who sent it.

Satisfied, Noelle set her phone down and began to enjoy her lunch.

Right before the workday ended, Elaine called Noelle, essentially telling her to steer clear of the estate for a while. Josephine was in one of her notoriously foul moods, and there was no point in poking the bear.

Playing the role of the perfectly obedient daughter, Noelle kept her voice soft and free of any resentment. She gently promised to do everything she could to avoid upsetting Grandmother further.

When Noelle returned to her luxury penthouse apartment, Mrs. Wagner had already spotless the massive, 3,000-square-foot space.

A hot, home-cooked meal was waiting for her. She had to admit, the arrangement felt pretty good.

As Mrs. Wagner finished setting the table, she turned to head to the kitchen to eat her own portion.

"Mrs. Wagner, come sit," Noelle called out warmly. "It's just the two of us. From now on, you'll eat at the table with me."

"Oh, Miss Sanders, I couldn't. That wouldn't be proper," Mrs. Wagner stammered, flattered. Her affection for Noelle was already sky-high after the massive cash bonus she'd received that afternoon. Being treated like family was the cherry on top.

Noelle laughed softly. "It's fine. Honestly, I'm not really a 'Miss Sanders' anyway. If Mom and my two brothers hadn't taken me in and elevated my status, I don't even know where I'd be struggling right now."

At this, Mrs. Wagner quickly corrected her. "In our eyes, you are the true lady of the Sanders family. You're gracious, generous, and elegant. You have more class than most girls born into high society."

The flattery did its job. Smiling, Noelle gestured to the chair. "Come sit down. Let's eat together."

Mrs. Wagner finally took a seat. Somehow, the conversation drifted toward Josephine.

Eating her food, Mrs. Wagner casually gossiped, "A few days ago, the old lady actually had the kitchen staff prepare a special lunch and delivered it to Mrs. Sanders herself."

"What?" The hand holding Noelle's fork froze mid-air. She snapped her head up. "You're saying Grandmother personally prepared lunch and took it to Kaia?"

Mrs. Wagner, assuming Noelle and Kaia were still on good terms, didn't realize she had just struck a nerve. She nodded eagerly. "Yes! The old lady said Mrs. Sanders has been working so hard and lost weight, so she clearly wasn't eating well. She had the kitchen stew premium Cordyceps..."

Noelle completely lost her appetite. Snatching her phone off the table, she frantically deleted the photos from her social media feed.
