What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 271

Finnian paused, casually tossing his T-shirt aside, and looked down at Kaia. "Yes, Noelle is injured and in the hospital. I took Brynlee to see her aunt. Is there a problem?"

"Did you tell me beforehand?"

Finnian frowned slightly. "She is Brynlee's aunt. It's perfectly natural for a child to see her family."

The words felt like a bucket of ice water, and Kaia's fury surged.

"Finnian," she said, suppressing her anger. "Clause four of the agreement... the specific details regarding visitation rights. I requested that you notify me before taking Brynlee to see Noelle. Did you do that?"

His frown deepened.

"I haven't signed the divorce papers yet. That is your unilateral demand, and I never agreed to it."

Kaia froze, suddenly remembering the draft was still sitting in his hands.

Finnian's voice lowered. "Kaia, I don't agree with that clause, and I never will. Noelle is the child's aunt, a member of the Sanders family. It is perfectly reasonable and entirely legal for Brynlee to see her. What right do you have to stop it?"

His righteous, matter-of-fact tone suffocated her.

"Finnian, are you planning to have Brynlee call her 'Mom' too?" Kaia bit her lip, staring furiously into his eyes as she demanded an answer.

"You're being completely unreasonable, Kaia," he deflected, avoiding the actual question.

"I am Brynlee's mother. I raised her. I just don't want her near that woman, and I will do everything to stop it."

Finnian's Adam's apple bobbed, his tone shifting defensively. "Noelle means no harm. She genuinely adores Brynlee..."

"You don't get to decide if she means harm or not," Kaia cut him off. "This isn't about her anyway. It's about us. You need to respect my boundaries as a mother."

"Can you stop being so sensitive?" Finnian's voice darkened. "Noelle isn't like that. You need to drop this."

With that, he turned, grabbed his T-shirt, and pulled it over his head in a frustrated motion.

Kaia stared at his back, her voice icy. "From today on, you tell me before you take Brynlee to see anyone. If you refuse, I'll go public with the divorce, involve the lawyers, and file for a restraining order."

Finnian's dark eyes widened in shock.

"Kaia, you're out of your mind."

She met his gaze with absolute calm. "I am perfectly sane. Noelle is one of the reasons our marriage fell apart. I will not allow my daughter to get close to someone like her."

She turned to leave.

Finnian closed the distance in two massive strides, catching her wrists and pinning her forcefully against the closet door. "Calm down."

Both of her wrists were trapped in his iron grip.
