Finnian returned to the villa to find Kaia at home—except she was in her room, zipping up two large, fully packed suitcases.
Seeing her mother, Brynlee happily ran upstairs.
Layla walked over, her face etched with worry. "Mr. Sanders, Mrs. Sanders is packing her things. Is she really moving out?"
Finnian nodded. "Yes. She probably won't be coming back here."
"But she doesn't know how to cook! Is she going to live all by herself? Did she hire someone to help out?" Layla fretted. "Three meals a day might seem like a small thing, but you can't skip them. She needs to be taken care of."
Finnian paused, realizing Layla had a point. "How about you ask her if she'd be willing to let you move in with her?"
Layla was caught off guard by the suggestion but quickly replied, "Sir, that's something you need to discuss with her. I can't make that call."
"Alright, I'll talk to her," Finnian said, heading upstairs.
He stepped into his guest bedroom first. The moment he walked in, he froze. Scattered across the bed were his dress shirts and ties, completely shredded. He walked over and inspected them—the price tags hadn't even been removed yet. He suddenly remembered these were the clothes Noelle had bought for him while shopping with his mother over the holidays.
Gripping the torn fabric, Finnian pressed his lips into a tight line. Why was Kaia acting so childish?
Brynlee suddenly ran in from the hallway. Finnian hurriedly shoved the shredded fabric into a shopping bag and stuffed it onto the highest shelf in the walk-in closet.
"Dad, Mom says she's going back to her apartment right now. She asked if I wanted to go with her. Why don't you come back with us too?" Brynlee tugged on his hand, pleading.
"I... I had a bit to drink, and my head hurts, so I'll stay here. You go on with your mom." Finnian wasn't in the mood; his mind was entirely occupied by the shredded clothes.
"Oh," Brynlee pouted. "Then I'm going downstairs to find Layla. She baked cupcakes, and I could smell them earlier."
"Go ahead," Finnian smiled gently.
Once the little girl disappeared down the stairs, Finnian stormed straight into the master bedroom.
Kaia had just finished zipping her suitcase and was rolling it toward the door.
Finnian's handsome face hardened in sheer disbelief.
"Are you serious, Kaia?" he demanded, searching her eyes. "You're mixing personal issues with business? Even if we divorce, I can guarantee your interests at The Sanders Conglomerate will remain completely untouched."
"And can you guarantee that my future achievements will belong entirely to me, without you casually handing them over to someone else under the guise of corporate strategy?" She glared right back at him.
Finnian's Adam's apple bobbed. In their seven years of marriage, Kaia rarely got this angry. She used to forgive him after a few days, but now, there was a ruthless finality in her eyes—leaving zero room for their shared history.
After waiting a couple of seconds and realizing he couldn't promise that, Kaia turned to leave.
"Fine!" Finnian grabbed her hand again, his voice turning raspy. "I promise. From now on, all your achievements and honors will belong strictly to you."
Kaia let out a cynical scoff.
Finnian tried to explain further. "The only reason Noelle took your place today is because Aethelstan is in the middle of negotiating several massive contracts. Since you lead R&D at a different branch now, you going up there would have invited unnecessary scrutiny from the public. Plus, the partnership with Cytogene AG is just getting started, and there's a lot more on the line. I'm sorry, but this was purely a strategic corporate decision, not a personal..."
