"Finnian, you don't need to explain yourself. You just don't have the guts to admit the real reason," Kaia said, staring pointedly at his hand gripping her arm.
Under her piercing gaze, Finnian felt his skin burn and quickly released her.
Right at that moment, Brynlee bounced upstairs carrying freshly baked cupcakes. She handed one to Kaia. "Mom, here you go!"
Kaia reached out and took it.
Brynlee offered another to Finnian. "Dad, this one is for you."
Finnian took it.
Taking a bite of the pastry, he remembered his earlier thought. "You and Brynlee always liked Layla's cooking the best. I talked to her earlier. I want her to move in with you and handle your daily meals."
"Yay! I love Layla's food! It's the best!" Brynlee practically jumped with joy.
Kaia hesitated, genuinely surprised he was willing to let their most trusted housekeeper go with her.
Finding a reliable nanny was incredibly difficult, and most didn't last past the initial adjustment phase.
She glanced at her daughter. Brynlee absolutely adored Layla, and the woman was meticulous when it came to caring for the child.
"No, thank you. Layla has been with the Sanders family for years. She should stay and take care of you." Despite being tempted, Kaia made the rational choice to refuse.
"Kaia, think about Brynlee. Given her specific needs, can you really trust a stranger? Layla knows exactly what you two like. She's the perfect fit." Finnian continued to push.
Kaia looked down as Brynlee tugged on her sleeve. "Mom, please let Layla come with us! I really love her."
Kaia wavered.
"Then it's settled. If you feel guilty about it, you can just pay her an extra salary," Finnian said, his voice a little hoarse.
After weighing her demanding work schedule, Kaia finally agreed. She really did need someone dependable to watch her daughter.
When Layla heard she was going with Kaia and Brynlee, she was thrilled.
She didn't care what outsiders said about the couple's relationship. From the moment Kaia married into the family, Layla remembered how her eyes used to light up whenever she looked at Finnian.
Layla had been young once and knew what love looked like. She firmly believed Kaia hadn't married for money, as the rumors claimed, but for the man himself.
Finnian instructed Layla to move in the very next morning. He pulled her aside, told her to spare no effort in caring for them, and gave her a substantial bonus.
