"Grandmother, Mr. Rhodes Sr., Mrs. Rhodes Sr.," Noelle greeted them immediately, flashing a perfectly polite smile.
Josephine gestured to an empty seat. "Sit."
Noelle obediently sat down and tactfully poured a fresh round of tea for the elders.
"Noelle, what do you think of the eldest Rhodes grandson, Martin?" Josephine didn't waste time on pleasantries. "He's three years older than you and currently the Vice President of The Rhodes Group. You've met him before. He's undeniably handsome and comes from an impeccable background."
The color completely drained from Noelle's face. She forced a bright smile. "Yes, I know Martin Rhodes. But we're merely acquaintances."
"Your grandmother Rhodes tells me the boy has been pursuing you for the past six months. He's sent you countless gifts and flowers. Surely, you're more than just acquaintances." Josephine's sharp eyes locked onto her, sending a chill straight down Noelle's spine.
Noelle let out a soft, awkward laugh. "Well, yes, Mr. Rhodes has been quite enthusiastic lately. I have received his gifts, but I've had most of them returned."
Hearing this, the Rhodes elders frowned, their displeasure obvious.
In their eyes, their grandson was the cream of the crop—more than good enough for a widow. Noelle acting so high and mighty was a direct insult to their pride.
"Rafael has been gone for over half a year now. It's time you considered your own future. Today, with your grandfather and grandmother Rhodes here as witnesses, I'm making the decision for you. Spend some time getting to know Martin. If you two are a good match, we'll pick a date and make it official." Josephine's tone carried the absolute authority of the family matriarch, suffocating Noelle until she could barely breathe. Her face was now deathly pale.
"Grandmother, I... I want to focus on my career right now. I'm not thinking about marriage. Please..."
"Work will always be there, but a woman's prime years won't wait. Since you are a daughter of the Sanders family now, you must think of what's best for the family. Staying single indefinitely isn't an option." Josephine mercilessly cut off Noelle's weak excuses, finalizing the verdict.
Noelle's breath caught in her throat. Beneath the table, her hands clenched into white-knuckled fists.
She knew exactly what the old woman was doing.
She just wanted to kick her out of the Sanders family as fast as possible. The attempt to send her abroad had failed, so now it was an arranged marriage. Pure fury coursed through Noelle's veins.
"Yes, Grandmother. I will spend time with Mr. Rhodes. I'm sure he's a very exceptional man." Noelle had no right to refuse. Josephine's word was law. If she dared to rebel, the old woman had endless ways to make her suffer.
Seeing Noelle finally yield, the Rhodes elders smiled in satisfaction.
