What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 314

Finnian nodded. He already knew the research itself wasn't flawed, but the demographic target had been completely misaligned.

"Finnian, did I embarrass the Sanders family?" Noelle looked up at him, her voice thick with misery. "I always wanted to prove that someone raised by this family wouldn't shame them. I pushed myself so hard, but... everything went wrong."

She leaned against the armrest, a quiet sob catching in her throat. Her pain was genuine.

Seeing her try so hard to be strong while looking so fragile, Finnian let out a soft sigh.

"Alright, don't be so hard on yourself," he comforted her. "Everyone has limits to their talents. You've done well enough. What others say doesn't matter, as long as you don't give up on yourself."

Noelle slowly lifted her head. Her tear-filled eyes reflected his gentle expression. At that moment, a massive wave of emotion slammed into her chest. Looking at him through her tears, she felt a desperate urge to throw herself into his arms and seek comfort.

The sheer audacity of her own thought terrified her, snapping her back to reality. She quickly wiped her eyes with the back of her hand and forced a bright smile. "You're right. I'm just being overly sensitive. Who cares what anyone else thinks, as long as my family supports me."

"Of course. Mom and I fully support you making your mark," Finnian said. Then, a thought occurred to him. "Should I arrange a dinner with your biological mother's family?"

Noelle jolted. "Why? Why would we take them out? We aren't that close."

"Are you worried Mom will be upset?" he asked gently. "Don't be. She and I talked, and she supports you reconnecting with your mother. You've said for years how much you missed them. Now that she's back, you should spend time with her."

Finnian assumed her hesitation stemmed from a fear of upsetting her adoptive family, so he tried to reassure her.

Noelle's breath hitched as old memories flooded her mind.

For years, she had believed her biological parents had died in that car crash. To portray herself as the perfect, filial daughter, she had visited the temple every year on the anniversary to pray for their souls.

And every year, Finnian and Rafael had gone with her. Those were her happiest memories. The journeys were filled with laughter, and she had felt like a princess, protected by her two older brothers.

Now, those beautiful days were gone, vanished like a bursting bubble.
